Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Sinking Ship

The company needs to shed a lot of weight. They should lay off ineffective first- and middle-line managers, incompetent ELT members, overpaid and overcompensated leaders, and useless organizations.

Their sales force is a joke too. I miss the times when the discussion would be dominated by Cisco engineers who were CCIEs and knowledgeable. Since the pandemic, incompetent management have been hiring an incompetent sales staff. Our Cisco engineer was a double CCIE and left the company in 2020.

They won't be able to compete with Palo, Juniper, and Arista, who is currently their largest rival. Junior engineers with mediocre leadership are going to sink the ship.

Until Cisco makes employees work 5 days a week in the office, they will have continue to have a work force of 80,000 part-times

We are migrating to one of their competitors because we have met with them more frequently than we have with Cisco in the past three months. We are a Cisco shop, but their sales team is meh. They also need to hire technical people if they want to stay relevant.

Many sales managers work at home and never visit customers, as they are running side business from home

Shed lot of weight is right. Look at the management stack comprising of managers, Sr. Managers, Directors, Senior Directors...all of who does absolutely nothing except send out meaningless webex invites. None of these people will find a comparable job/salary if they have to look for another job. They have no marketable skills. These are the real fat that need to be shed.

In UK the technical Sales situation is absolutely hopeless. People are just leaving in hordes and whatever is left behind literally cannot talk to customers at any acceptable technical level. Problem is, leadership has no technical clue - they still hype DNAC as the greatest invention on this planet and promote and hire based on those suppositions. They have been pushing SEs to become AMs since early this year. Higher grades were being managed out. We now have no one to go to for mentoring or guidance, Its a desperate situation. I am moving to Palo in Jan and hoping that I get laid off before that. If i get the notice then I'll try to postpone my start at Palo till Feb and take the package. The UK VP has gone AWOL apparently in a "family related" long vacation for months and months. The SED is running wild.

Can't understand why they keep hiring when they know they are going to be laying off.

I work with someone, who is essentially a peer, but now "manages" a couple of other peers, while reporting to a manager who is a peer of my manager. It's lunacy. Stop making management layers where they aren't needed.
