Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

So that no one claims "No warning"

I guess enough people tried to say they had no idea they were supposed to be reporting in office, ADs and Directors have been told to personally remind each of our team members transitioning to new locations.

So if they are to be 5-days, it sounds like "Reminder that you scheduled to be in Dallas (with exact location) 5 days a week starting (date), 8-hours a day." If they aren't there on that Monday, documentation begins. My guess is they will classify it as job abandonment.

If you're 3-days, it sounds like "Reminder that you scheduled to be in Dallas (with exact location) 3 days a week starting (date), 8-hours a day." If they don't report on Monday, they get the same reminder for Tuesday. If they don't show up by Wednesday, they will not be able to fulfill the 3-day requirement, and you get the drift.

So this is for all the ones who need to be hand-held and given all the little strikes on their way out the door.

“If you could find something better that suited your demands you should do that.”

I think we all know the reality of this statement.

"Only sheep follow pointless directives without pushing back."

Disagree with this perspective. Complying with employer mandates regarding where you work from is what professional mature adults do. They pay you after all. If you could find something better that suited your demands you should do that.

I still expect to receive three warnings prior to being fired.

Only sheep follow pointless directives without pushing back.

So long as the sheep doesn't want unemployment, etc, that push back will work - for AT&T who is looking for job cuts with low expenses.

So everyone is clear...looks like L4 and L3 def got marching orders from HR to send out clear communication reiterating/ reinforcing RTO policy, that everyone needs to do 8 hours, every day they are assigned to work, in the office. Make sure "you" are swiping your badge, do not "follow" anyone else in. Etc, etc. You all have probably seen an email within the last few days from your L3 or L4 like this.

This was clearly done because of the feedback HR has been getting during their recent investigations from the people being investigated ("no one told me", "we were told 4 hours was fine", etc.).

HR is ensuring that any wiggle room is removed from the equation.

"Do you really not think employees are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours/week? "

Your the employee that needs to be fired with your thinking . . . you can only accomplish something in the office, and not on your own. How immature.

You are a special kind of d-mb*ss if you have not figured out you are supposed to be in the office. You are the low hanging fruit in the attrition program. Better you than me or my coworkers.

“I have heard 6 hrs in office is good enough but then we found out that is not the case MUST be in office 8 hours. You cannot blame employees when there is NOT clear direction for all at the leadership levels..”

Do you really not think employees are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours/week?

Eh, why is anyone still working 3 days in office? Get everyone in there for a daily serving of the misery soup.

Stop the ambiguity and be direct to employees and most importantly be VERY transparent. I have heard 6 hrs in office is good enough but then we found out that is not the case MUST be in office 8 hours. You cannot blame employees when there is NOT clear direction for all at the leadership levels...

If AT&T really care about their employees then they would have start looking in report in January first week itself and would have educated their employees to be in office for long time. Instead of taking care of their employees, without giving them any warning they terminated good employees in March based on January report where there was no scope for employees to understand the situation and follow the expectations which were being setup in February.
This shows their bad professionalism and bad attitude towards their employees.

"My guess is they will classify it as job abandonment."

My call is insubordination, particularly if the employee tries to work remotely, showing that he'll work in a location designated by employee as opposed to working where he was told to work.?

No Cobra, no unemployment, no severance.

" All the bosses trying to look cool, or keep the peace, who gave unauthorized exceptions. (Turns out you never had the authority to grant exceptions.)"

I have been saying this here for weeks and being downvoted.

Today we got email from L3 stating very clearly what was expected and clearly stating that there are no exceptions, and nothing they can do at L3, L4 once the HR investigations starts.

Your "cool" L2 AD that you have the occasional after work beer with is not calling the shots here.

BWAAAHHHHHAaaaaa!!!!!
T d-mb leadership finally realized their communication to employees was all over the place and conducting business like a free for all Biden administration. Got caught when a badass employee pushed back on your informal policies unevenly spread throughout.

Silly you...it's also to catch you guys.

All the bosses trying to look cool, or keep the peace, who gave unauthorized exceptions. (Turns out you never had the authority to grant exceptions.) Yeah--no more throwing people under the bus when you get called out.

Maybe it should be like the car tag notices some states send out:
This reminder is considered a courtesy and is not considered formal notice, but it's your responsibility, even if you don't receive a notice, and penalties may apply ...
