Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

My prior Intel layoff experience

Calm down. Nobody will be kicked to the curb or instantly walked out of the building… unless you did something really bad (steal company property, harass coworkers, and the like),

In my layoff from Intel years ago, I already knew it was coming as the entire group was about to be eliminated, save those left to “turn off lights”. My direct manager seemed clueless that everyone already heard from the grapevine. My manager set up a 1:1 about 5 days beforehand. During the 1:1, I received the paperwork about severance package.

I was not walked out or asked to leave on the same day. I had 8 weeks to look for an internal job. I was planning to retire already and didn’t look for any job, internal or external.

So, i informed close coworkers and managers of my retirement decision but I did so a week later — during that one week, I collected my personal belongings from work and deleted any personal stuff from my work computer.

I remained 8 weeks just like everyone else In the 8 weeks, I “worked” from home, except to come in once a week to hear any latest news. I signed NDA and answered any emails and questions about pass-down but that didn’t take full 8 weeks.

Finally the last date came, I left my badge and laptop with the manager assigned to collect such items. I ran into BK on the way out and politely exchanged “hi”.

That was the most uneventful 8 weeks in my Intel career.

The more propaganda or garbage HR post here, the more it shows they are scared by other posts here.

Notice the 2016 people are still bitter? What is that about? If the company is so bad, why do you care so much to post about it 6 years later. You probably took the voluntary package also. This is like a stalker whose girlfriend breaks up with him and he still talks about her 6 years later over beers. Get over it.

ACT 2016 victim here. I was awarded SSL4 so I knew beforehand I had to go. I got the 1:1 email with my manager the evening before, so I had half a day to empty my cube. I was shown the door immediately after the 1:1 meeting.

I got ISP'd in 2016, it was a later round so wasn't walked out or anything and got a good redundancy package. I remembered obsessively reading these forums in the preceding months which is what brought me here today after reading the headlines.

It was painful at the time but also ended up being a great opportunity, I needed a kick as I had been afraid to jump for many years. It was scary wondering if I would find another job, get similar money etc... But my Intel experience stood to me, and I now work in quite a different technology field.

So to all those fretting and getting upset about the rumour mill and doom mongering in here, you are valuable, and there are exciting new opportunities out there beyond Intel should you employment cease

In 2016 I had taken a couple of days off when the layoffs were announced. On Monday of the first week, which was the last week of April 2016, 3-4K people were walked out. When I came into the office on Tuesday the cubes of people I knew were empty, completely cleaned out. The remaining people who left over the next 2 months were either VSP or ERP. The people who chose to leave could do so immediately and were still paid through June 30. They also received separation packages. The walk outs could happen this time. It is not smart for a company to allow potentially disgruntled employees to remain in the office or have access to anything. I doubt there will be much of a package offered.

Mine was kinda similar. I vollenteered in 2015. I was not selected because I have 19 years where I was rated exceed or outstanding 15 of those years. My boss pulled some strings to get me in the program since I had planned on leaving the state anyway.

They were really professional. Gave me 8 weeks in the redeployment pool and a service to help write a resume and look for jobs. Paid out vacation, sabbatical, bunch of other stuff. Walked out with 70k after taxes.

Decided to come back a few months ago…my only sticking point if they let me go again is that I just moved all the way across the country and I’ll fight for relo to move back.
