Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What happens if the US starts to go after labor outsourcing?

I'm not here to argue politics and if it is right or wrong, just the consequences of Verizon continuing to outsource a large percentage of its workforce to places like India.

Today, the labor secretary alluded to going after companies that outsource labor just like they have been going after foreign manufacturing to bring those jobs to the US. What will be the impact if Verizon suddenly sees restrictions or much higher expenses for all the workforce they sourced overseas?

It isn't like this administration gives these companies time to plan and adapt. Decisions seem to be made on a whim and change on a weekly basis. Will Hans bring more jobs back or fudge numbers of where workers are from? Will he simply rebadge them to other companies and just pay for their services?

'Outsourcing to low cost countries is always going to be a thing…'

The executive 'leadership' can also be outsourced. Cheaper salaries and better ideas on how to turn a profit and offer better shareholder 'value' than the previous 5 years of 'growth'!

Shareholders should revolt until new leadership happens.

Outsourcing to low cost countries is always going to be a thing…

It will be smart for IT/telco to diversify offshore locations. Theres already a lot of steam in tech to offshore to Mexico, and South American countries like Brazil. Closer proximity, better overlap in time zones, geopolitical/trade alignment, etc

I recommended to the Commerce Sec that all H1B arrivals have an 80% tariff to be paid to enter the USA.
I might win an Recognizing You award for this one

@f4 We all know our offices are majority staffed by Indians (outside of union workers). And the Indians don't get paid less than anyone else with the same job band. Very common to have husband and wife both working in IT in VZ making 160k+

Scottish golf courses will likely close, as well as those in Ireland and Dubai.

@e8 the average IT worker in Hyderbad is paid around ten dollars an hour in US dollars and that gives them a very nice standard of living there. That same worker with the same experience and responsibilities, even out of college here is around fifty dollars an hour to start. Plus workers here have more expenses like more expensive medical, social security taxes, retirement matching, yadda yadda. It is considerably cheaper. The savings on medical and retirement alone is more than someone in India is paid. When they find out how much their American counterparts make, they may strike.

I don’t buy that Americans are more expensive. Most of the IT SOWs can be done by college hires. IT leadership has fooled the business into thinking it requires armies of people maintaining cr-ppy system and layeres of inept management to manage the bloated contractors.

'do u have link to this - Today, the labor secretary alluded to going after companies that outsource labor'

Nearly all tech and other large companies have been doing it for years. It won't change no matter how much 'congress' mumbles about it. Shareholder profits are what matter, and profits can't be affected from paying US labor more money.

Already do in former GTE area. And it is a sh-t show. Takes week to get a pole replaced. Or a new drop buried.
