Thread regarding USAA layoffs

16 Architects In IT Let Go

That’s a good start. Any details on what those architects covered?

Unfortunately the architecture group is over bloated. It is a 100+ Million dollar organization with no proper accountability. Thanks to the poor leadership that built this monster in the name of outdated TOGAF. Funny part is how it kept on expanding over the years. Other companies manage this function with less than 10% of what USAA spends.

@q4 You are so busy protecting jobs you have no idea. Maybe they were caught surfing INet all day. Most here want change but when it starts people don’t really want it. To change it’s going take reduction of EMG and mgt to get to decisions faster. Doesn’t mean fire front line but stop hiring until Juan figures out what he’s doing. Projects are still a disaster as evidenced by that architect discussion above. The old BPMP and Agile seem like they need a tune up w less overhead. But don’t fear some change.

Architects at USAA are useless. I never had a good experience with one and all they seemed to do was fly off to tech conferences.

It wasn’t until I worked at another tech company and saw architects actually helping design and deliver software that I realized how kush of a job USAA architects have.

At one point it seemed there were a couple hundred architects. Team after team full of architects. Like any job, there are many that are not enthusiastically producing. Hard to get in meetings. Even harder to get a decision on something. Not able to coordinate with related architects to come up with a comprehensive technical strategy. So yes, just like every job at USAA, it was time for a haircut.

Officer with substantial experience responding to the terrible person celebrating people being laid off. You sound like a great fit for the USAA culture.

This post is a prime example of why no one wants to hire USAA employees. How immature you must be to belittle people losing their income and benefits. Anyone who celebrates people being laid off deserves every bad thing coming their way. Good luck in the real world.

Your backside must be feeling pretty sore. Wondering how big the celebration was after you were shown the door.

@aj Downvotes for speaking the truth. Nice. Several of the ones let go were super talented. Anyone saying otherwise is a clown.

I can tell you for a fact as a 15 year employee and someone who's still working here, these architects were laid off because they had been here for 20+ years and were the most expensive.

That's who they're going after right now, it has nothing to do with productivity or value, just how expensive you are. Take what you will from that.
