Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon is crazy for keeping us anxious for WEEKS!

I am not sure how Verizon's employees will bounce back. I see many creating resumes and trying to find a job. Once the layoffs are done, the employees who were meant to be retained will also leave. I don't understand how the leadership doesn't understand something as basic as this. Every company that has done layoffs, do it FIRST, then go to the press. Here, we are getting to know the fate of the company not from our employer, but from news outlets. That's extremely disrespectful. I hope people realize their self-worth and abandon ship before its too late and Dan decides to come for them.

Waiting su-ks. I just want it to be over already. I think most people feel the same way. Being in the office this week was so depressing. The stress is there either on the surface or right below. I know more may be coming in the future even if you survive next week.

I don’t agree with op. 1. There’s plenty of precedent with advanced leaks, look no further than the most recent Amazon layoffs. 2. Sad but true, most of the folks left behind will NOT quit voluntarily. There might be studies out there explaining the reasons, but just look at VZ itself, after years of layoffs and losing employees trust, there just simply wasn’t a major exodus of employees leaving, not even with incentives like VSP. VZ knows it, corporate America knows it, that’s why they really don’t care what the retained employees feel. Most folks will stay until they are let go, moral can be fixed, nothing to worry about. Sad but true. Unionization is the answer, but that’s a different topic.

@a6 I’ll start looking more actively, it’s hard to not think Dan won’t do another round of layoffs

I don’t think many that aren’t laid off are going to be leaving realistically. The job market is dogsh*t right now

I'm over 2 decades in. I agree with what you're saying but I can't leave money on the table.

@OP FB, Twitter and Google used the same MO…all the way up until the announcement day.

@a1 agreed! but when you decide to 'abandon ship' , it'll be when you have an offer at hand. And yes, this is all a big lesson for all of us - We have to look after ourselves, keep interviewing and stay relevant.

Take it as your sign to leave. No company that values their employees would do something like this.

I agree, but also, if one's employment must be ended, even by my choice to move on from the insanity and "abandon ship", wouldn't I rather get a severance/payout to do so rather than not? I guess it's tough bc ya never know when you'll be able to find another position. We need to be smart and prepare for emergencies like this in advance and/or be networking and interviewing outside of the company when we don't NEED to get a new job, that way we're better prepared and positioned when we do, regardless of who chose to end our employment at VZ
