I've been applying for months through the big job boards and getting almost nothing back. No calls, no interviews, nothing. For those of you who've been laid off and managed to find something, which platforms actually worked for you? I need to change my approach.

@aj The job boards have always been bad. The job I have now (10+ years) I answered an ad on Craigslist. Got interviewed and hired in 2 days.
This is @b2. It took me a year to find the new job. You also need to be willing to relocate. Pray pray pray. Fast if you need to. Only God has the power to get you something in this hostile job search environment.
Former TSYS employee also RIF'ed when McKinsey came in Aug 2024. Took a while to find another job (almost a year). My advice - 1) Network 2) Apply om Individual employer career pages and 3) LinkedIn.
The recruitment service (LHI) they provided as a part of my separation was a complete waste of money and straight garbage. They provided zero benefit and did nothing to help me find another job.
Stay mentally healthy is probably the best advice I could give in the transition. Stay rooted, stay busy, volunteer and pray. In the end it will work out. Storms don't last forever, eventually the sun will shine. Looking back best move ever, just wasn't fun.
Use Google gemini, ask it to find your job description opening in a particular vertical location if need be or remote
I was a tsys employee that got laid off in august 2024 when mckinsey came in and we were under global payments. I now am at fiserv in alpharetta. But I had to relocate as they mandated in office. However now I am on a hybrid schedule due to having to share desk with lack of space which is nice. I did not get a developer job but because the job market is so bad, I took another type of job. It is very very difficult to find a tech job now. Most of the jobs are ghost jobs just to get your information. I had to spend alot of time praying and asking God for help. Next thing you know I got a call from a former tsys employee I havent seen since the early 2000s when I first started at tsys. He got me an interview. I find I got better better result applying directly on the company website before fiserv came around. So I got in through a reference. I do get paid more than what I was making at tsys by about 15k. However the standard of living in north ga is way higher than Columbus ga and Alabama. I would like to apply for a developer role later on but the push to use AI is turning me off. I dont want to use it. It makes the job boring. You have to juat prompt the ai and watch it write code for you. Not something I want to do at all.
I second starting with LinkedIn, then applying direct on the company site. Indeed has a higher quantity, but you have to sort through your the garbage.
Also, if you’re looking remote, make sure to read through the job posting carefully, since they may advertise remote but actually require hybrid or that you live within the commuting distance of the org.
Good luck!
The job boards have gotten really bad. The majority of positions returned do not match my search criteria (indeed, zip recruiter, and Linkedin sometimes). I've started using Google as it seems to do a much better job of locating matches for me.
I am in the same boat as you. Have a 1:50 ratio with interviews/applications over the past month.
I can only offer some basic suggestions:
ChatGPT has helped alot with targeted resume updates based on the job listing and with tailored cover letters.
Also create a bunch of LinkedIn job searches with AND/OR/NOT operators. Save these searches as job alert notifications that run every 24hrs.
Lastly, locate the postings on LinkedIn but apply directly on the company websites where possible (or just apply in both locations.)
Best of luck to you
