Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

"Work smarter instead of harder" means nothing here

When I say I'm drowning in work, everyone tells me to work smarter instead of harder, but how can I do that when nobody here actually removes the obstacles that make work harder than it needs to be? Until leadership starts fixing the broken processes, smarter isn't really an option.

Talking of people who could work smarter and broken processes....

Yet another reminder that we have to submit out DXC.Time and it's causing issues that people aren't doing it.

Just to clear something up - the issue isn’t that people can’t be bothered, don’t understand the process, or are refusing to do their time. We don't have a working WBS code!!! So basically every has to go to a bench code. And no I have no idea where it was really spent, as I don't actually care if you can't bill the client.

We are not here to fix your broken processes - DXC.Time is not even new, why is is such a mess and a surprise that people need WBS codes setting up!? Stop blaming the staff and getting everyone's back up sending out mails to everyone like we're a bunch of naughty children. When the process works, the process will work! Till then. #Whatever

@jf Other companies generally try to remove obstacles so you can do the job they hired you to do. DXC often feels like the opposite - we spend most of our time burning weeks on organisational drag.

TRAVEL:

  • Other companies: “We need you onsite with a client — your hotel is booked.”
  • DXC: “Please complete a travel justification, obtain approval through five management layers, and explain why remote attendance is not possible.”

ACCESS:

  • Other companies: “Your role requires this access, so you already have it.”
  • DXC: “Raise a form. Find who approves it. Chase them. Get your manager to chase them. Eventually discover your mandatory training expired or is lost. Nobody can tell you where to find it.”

PROCESS:

  • Other companies: “Write the code, check it in, test it, deploy it.”
  • DXC: “Before writing code, complete documentation using the latest template revision. The content is secondary; formatting is critical. Access to repos is client-specific, but you probably can’t have it. Deployment access is restricted because you are not trusted to deploy the thing you were trusted to build. By the time approvals arrive, everyone involved has moved on.”

"Some good people have been let down, and had their skillset destroyed.....and an ongoing campaign of your not good enough for a pay rise."

This - I spent decades as an eager puppy, learning skills, accepting difficult work but It got me nowhere in DXC.
Trying to "do well" at DXC just means you get noticed for passive abuse from legacy old timer colleagues and even shtier treatment from old timer managers who favour their Sht performaing old timer colleagues.

Other companies always want those who try.

@j7 You can make me redundant right now pal. I'll happily take the money and ride off into the sunset today. My true skill have not been used by DXC for some time now. I gave up asking as they only give you busy work. So I mentally checked out last year in fact. But evidently there is some work coming.... It's been coming since March now FFS. When will they wake up and smell the coffee - the client is just playing them along just in case there is something we've not handed over - but probably has very little intention of using us ever again. I recon they've forgotten I even exist. It's been over 2 weeks since I had any meaningful communication with anyone from DXC.

@da When applied to any of our management - I totally agree!
Some good people have been let down, and had their skillset destroyed by stupid decisions, and an ongoing campaign of your not good enough for a pay rise.

The smart people are not working on DXC or client tasks at all. They gave that racket up some time back. They have thrown something at these broken processes and left it for their manager to resolve sometime never. Knowing that their manager either can't or won't. I don't see how AI can resolve anything we are completely blocked from touching.
