Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Move on and leave the toxicity behind!

After about 15 years of experience in GN&T my sincere advice is to move on and leave the toxicity behind! Don’t waste your time analyzing the future of the company, the impact of Dan’s decisions, the impact of AI, or whatever. Who cares? It’s a toxic environment and you need to get out.

At first, I thought I had drawn the short straw and got an incompetent and unethical boss who did his utmost to promote his rather incompetent favorites while holding back much more capable engineers but as time went on and positions got reshuffled, I realized it was a widespread and systemic issue.

All my bosses were fundamentally clueless about how to really improve network KPIs and relied on vibes. The company spent a lot of money on the network which masked the incompetence to a large extent.

Some people did well and got promoted to Principal or Distinguished engineer but paradoxically their work resulted in little or no concrete improvements. The promotions were also based on vibes.

You deserve bosses that know what they’re doing, treat you fairly and value your contributions! So do yourself a favor, move on as soon as possible and don’t look back.

So True! not one of my Managers has more than 1 day field experience. But you know what they are good at? Reading a spreadsheet and focusing on stupid things that mean absolutely nothing to the customer, But hey some A.I. agent will be able to look at that wifi heatmap and determine your router is in the wrong spot so you should just move it. lol Also our dispatchers can't read a freakin order. They have no idea the difference between an upgrade of data speed or a brand new 12 box install that is off of a pole mounted term with a 12 port vats that needs to be place that they give you at 2:00pm when you are done at 4Pm and are 25miles away from the location because on the map they use it is an inch, if they even care, they are at their houses playing with their kids and putting you on hold to get a coffee or let the dog out.. But hey get the HPD up, and don't idle your vehicle while you sit in traffic.. These Nepo baby 1st,2nd,and 3rd levels need to go first.

@OP it’s the VZW way. My Supervisor has been with the company 20 years in sales and is now “ leading “ our team. He has no clue about the role, has made no effort to learn the job. We manage large national accounts and carry the load while he does nothing - oh time sheets. Weekly calls are no information shared, 1:1 are no show, or all BS. How does this happen! The incompetence is unbelievable…

Look at employment numbers it’s gone down every year, the years of working here until retirement are gone. Look at who they are letting go, it stopped being the bad performers and started being the good performers too. Sinking ship. Sad to see.

I am actively seeking new employment. I may have only given Verizon a little over 7 years, but this situation is untenable. I find myself intentionally sabotaging my work, I think that's a sign of burnout and it's time to go.
