If you get an 'IC Meets' rating, and later get written up and eventually let go, do you still get a severance package? I'm really worried about a coworker going through this right now. I always thought companies offered severance just to avoid getting sued, but now I'm not so sure. Honestly, knowing the answer affects my own strategy too. If they ever start giving me warnings and there’s no package at the end, I'd rather just quit abruptly than go through the torture of a drawn-out firing process.

There are exceptions, if you are in your probationary period or in your case made an other team
member cry.
Apparently you all have not been in touch with previous posts here? I was terminated without severance in Dec 2025 for having IM rating. Yes, you can be terminated for performance and NOT get a package and NEVER be rehired.
In 30 years, I've seen maybe one person get "fired" without a package - and this was for inappropriate chat messages to a female. It is much cheaper for WF to give you hush money than to deal with court.
what about the folks everyone said were fired but they ran around telling people they got severance? I wouldnt call it hush money but hush money does seem to be a thing.
Generally yes. But sorta depends why. if you were displaying your pepe in the break room, no.
Most likely you will not get one
But some teams and some managers may give
If I get let go without severance and some made up IM they will have a reason to fire me. I found out some good dirt on a personnel issue and how WF is trying to cover it up. Let’s let the lawsuits begin folks.
@a4 most states are At Will employment states, meaning that if WF no longer wills you to be an employee. This means no lawsuits unless it is for wrongful termination.
@a4 not if it’s documented in workday. That’s how WF protects themselves from lawsuits…consistent documentation to support non performance issues. technically most states are at will and can let people go for whatever reason with or without severance. So there is also that.
@aa if you are fired/terminated for performance, you don't "get two weeks"
Your last day of pay is the day you are fired.
Your health insurance is also terminated the end of the month you are fired.
they are systemically - but not in a calibrated way - firing for "performance" to avoid severance. different behavioral standard for diff peeps.
in many states you can get unemployment while also getting severance. That's what I've been doing
@a4 Wells has deep pockets for that and I’ve yet to hear of anyone who’s in that situation that won a settlement. I know of one who’s still trying.
@OP You only get severance if they layoff. If you are not performing and they let you go, you get two weeks and can file for unemployment. If you quit, you have no income until you get another job. Let them fire you.
@a3+
If that's true, then doesn't that open them up to a number of very large expensive lawsuits?
Severance only comes into play if you’re displaced/laid off for some reason. If you’re let go for performance issues, there will be no severance package.
99% you get a package
