Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

13 years

13 years as a nurse and scared of the unknown. Afraid the final pay out will be leas than the “expected” amount. Want to know what the “agreement” states before hand. Praying for everyone!

Exactly! Hospitals and medical offices would prefer to hire new grads because they're way cheaper. Per diem / travel would be one of our options. However - where's the stability in that? Listen - everyone here is in the same boat. There is no guidance from upper management or direct supervisors. At this point everyone is only looking out for themselves. Don't let any negativity break you down. It's too early for that. Do what you think is best for yourself and families.

I have been a nurse for 13 years as well, and searching the current job market has me worried. I’m sick of hearing “you’re a nurse you’ll be fine.” You can’t just waltz into a hospital or other organization these days. Everyone is penny pinching and do not care about short staffing.

@ad Think again. That is statement is outdated. I was let go in May and have been sending out applications like crazy with no offers at all on the horizon. So when you say we could have a job tomorrow as a nurse think again. If that was the case then this site would not have a bunch of people posting their fears and concerns. You need a reality check.

@a7 Not every state provides unemployment if you sign a VSP.

Not really, it’s easy to get A job to pay THE bills as an RN anywhere.

Won’t be a great job but no one is going homeless or starving as an RN.

Don’t give corporate psychopaths that kind of power. They need nurses more than nurses need Centene, legally, in many many of their contracts.

@ad this is true a decade ago…

@OP I've been a nurse for 15 years. If we were to decline the VSP offer and ride out the storm and eventually get the boot I honestly think the package won't be as attractive. They may even d-mb it down to 1 week per each year worked. Who knows? Cobra might even be for a month if we're lucky. At least we would have unemployment benefits as a cushion while we searched for a new job.

The fact the amount they show is estimated makes me have second thoughts. Since it’s pretax they should be able to provide the actual amount, Shouldnt they?

Everyone's offer is different. If you’re eligible and want to know your offer, register on the website and read the pdfs. There’s a personalized statement with your offer then 4 other pdfs with legal verbiage on how the program works and what to expect. Read all the words before you submit an application for VSP. Yeah, you have to apply and they have to accept. There are plenty of loopholes that you’ve probably read about on this site. It’s a personal decision to take any further steps or not. Do what’s best for you and your family. And may the odds be ever in your favor.
