Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Which plants are next on the closure list?

Just wondering - I have no ideas but I believe there have to be more closures coming.

@12y Hartford City? Cynthiana? CG? Hutch? Decatur? Nevada? Greenville? All of these are plants I've been "off the books" for either trials or production runs.

@1vh decatur is part of top38 sites. Unlikely to be shutdown candidate for now. Its likely to be those EMEA plants. That paul highlighted their super high COGS.

New ESC is building up this new Command center where he can drill down each plant and DC performance at his finger tips. All in the name of AI & productivity. All the plant VPs and directors will be sh1tting in their pants now. Poorer performance plants will be slated to be shut.

We have had a list of plants to evaluate for closure since 2010. Closing plants is difficult business and the returns on investment are usually low or negative. A new EVP sitting on top of ESC is not going to change that fact. Plants will close as assets reach end of life and fixing or replacing is proven to be a worse investment than moving operations to a larger facility.

.... with all that said if you are at a plant with less than 200 people, I wouldn't count on working there long term (5+ years). Capital spending has been cut to the bone and maintaining or improving equipment will be harder to justify.

My plant is a money laundering scheme. It serves more than one business group so the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing. Expense spending gets shuffled around to whatever department can "afford" it. A constant stream off money flowing to permanent contractors. Free lunch tastes great. When St. Paul shows up, we only show them what we want them to see.

PG is doing his rounds of plant visits and assessments now. One can see his posts in engage forum. Every sites are doing their best to impress the boss. The VPs & plant directors are all nervous now.

30% will be under review for consolidation. 108 plant/DC review is why PG was brought in - sorry but heavy impacts to come
