I don’t think their plan backfired at all. I think it is going exactly the way they intended for it to go. Without having to issue a single WARN notice and look “bad” to investors, they manipulated a huge chunk of their workforce to “quit” their jobs and they now have the power to say who goes and when you go. Money is power and this challenging economy was perfect timing for them to exercise control.

What are we doing?!
They offered Sr Employees, who are close to retirement, a chance to go with a huge lump sum, while avoiding the healthcare costs associated with those older employees.
They offered employees who can't do another day here a chance to go with a lump sum.
They offered themselves a chance to pay a lump sum and not incur the direct costs of unemployment or the short-term tax implications of being a higher.
Can we NOT creative writing exercises to make ourselves feel better and say "company is evil"?
this "scare" has made me reevaluate my spending habits and really ask myself what is it that I want to do with my time.
if my VSP is not accepted, I'm leaving.
if my VSP is accepted, and my separation date is extended beyond what I'm comfortable with, I'm leaving.
my mental health has been deteriorating from the stress of this job and I am doing the work of 2.5 FTEs. I do not want to lose myself and not be able to get myself back. I do not want to develop a health condition. it is not worth it.
the boundaries of remote work have already been blurred... and we will be asked to do more work with less resources. AI will not fix everything and because of AI, we will spend more time fixing.
if you get the VSP, but a job offer comes up and your future employer is unable to be flexible on the start date, TAKE IT! do not give up that opportunity for some money and guaranteed unemployment.
