Thread regarding CDW layoffs

How's everybody feeling?

It's a new week, layoffs are behind us (at least for now), but the atmosphere still feels heavy. I have a feeling productivity is down as well. I certainly still can't concentrate fully on work. You can only push people so much before it starts influencing their performance.

Doesn’t feel good. Lost some amazing people and compared to prior layoffs there is a real sense of defeat. Almost zilch from leadership and what there is does not produce confidence. It’s either a sink and loot future or they truly are clueless. It’s a real shame because there are truly awful places to work by comparison. Chipping away at the culture and performance to sell questionable services we are not capable of implementing feels like a real betrayal to our customers and coworkers.

CDW leadership is a sh-tshow that rivals the dysfunction of the Federal Govt. I feel really bad for all the people that lost their jobs. One of them I know extremely well, and I'm surprised he lasted this long. Nice guy, but he shouldn't be in Sales. I've been in that RIF situation before, and it is not a great feeling. Former coworkers, networking, and self-confidence led me to a better situation that lasted 10 years before downshifting into this mess before retiring. I just keep telling myself to keep moving forward, and do what they ask me to do.

I want to leave CDW in a better place before I retire, but they are making it a lot harder to do with fewer people to do the work. Managers can't hire replacements, and the there is too much work to be done. AI can't do all of it.

I found it very interesting that the day after CDW's latest RIF that our competitors were reaching out to bolster their staff even if I wasn't part of the RIF. I got three emails or LinkedIn messages asking about my availability. I followed up on each and every one, and I've got 3 interviews coming up. I have no problem seeking other opportunities even if I'm close to retirement, and apparently these companies don't have a problem with it either. I've created a "stay vs go" spreadsheet, and so far the "stay" is looking pretty empty.

I feel sad and alone. And a little afraid. Possibly a little giddy too. Can somebody give me a hug?

Not good. Watched them can some quality people without any warning, no discussion, no forethought in who or how that work load gets picked up or whether there’s a remaining skill set here to cover the losses. Management, with their bs emails about being in this together seems completely disconnected from what’s happening on the ground, how it’s affecting morale but also how it’s discouraging customers. These cuts are blunt force trauma when it requires strategy and surgical execution. I predict more pain ahead.

What a joke…imagine being laid off in this economy and having to read this load of cr-p! Have some compassion for those who were cut and those who are still there because they feel trapped and keep their mouths shut! Hope this finds you well!

Relief is what i feel. Could never tell before what kind of person, our chief was until now and now it all makes sense. Execution tells priorities! You see our sr manager is a sorry fatman whose only real skill is making those above him feel better while those beneath are miserable! Now i am one of the 20% who contributes 80 percent of departments output and wiill never have a problem finding employment. Our chief is a resentment centered person whose rif timing conveys a fu america.political message. Now at least i can make an informed decision!

@da
I agree
Wish there was more transparency.
Still working but this last round felt different.
Going to spend time updating my resume just in case but also start seeing what's out there.
Not enough money to just leave now but I know from others that the pay here isn't better than other companies in the tech industry. Maybe overall comp was competitively better before but not anymore.
Overall feeling is blah

It's ok... people were like that to me while I worked at CDW.

I could literally count on my 2 hands the number of real true life long friends that I made in my decades there. Slightly sad but also could be my fault as I don't like any BS.

Down voting me might make them feel good but it doesn't change what I wrote. I can also say I have other posts on here where these very same people upvoted me 50+ ... doesn't change anyone's situation and I'm just being honest which is more than most current leadership has the ba--s to try and be.

To me it is really vindication. I was right and many were wrong. Shockingly I was right and many people that are "industry leaders" were wrong which is scary.

The advice I gave my friends before I left and still do is...be smart with the money you make. You slave for it, you stress for it, you give up your time (time = life) for it, spend time away from loved ones for it... etc.

All of the above to get $ and then people waste it. Money can be used to make more money. You just need enough to compound. Imagine investing in certain CDW partners in the last few years. You'd be financially free.

Just my opinion which some will not agree with but I'm not the one posting "open to work" on LinkedIn or saying I was let go.

People are too positive these days...the world isn't perfect and CDW isn't the same company it used to be. Always look out for yourself and plan ahead.

You sound like someone I could've had drinks with at happy hour and discussed the current dumpster fire we both were a part of.

Not glad you got termed but glad you are finally free after who knows how many years. You can really feel the change physically and mentally.

To everyone else... I didn't fire you. Be mad at the people that weren't honest with you and just added your name to a list one day.

@as
This is really lacking in discretion and reading the room the way you worded it, or maybe the message as a whole.

I also had a feeling it was coming and was laid off. I’m not financially super secure but I feel freed by this mundane job I worked for years. You’re right about saving money.

Holy sh-t though, the “not to gloat” and “I feel vindicated”…yeah there’s a reason you’re being downvoted

It's OK everyone.

I checked LinkedIn and for all the posts of ex coworkers announcing they were part of the RIF, there are happy posts about recent college grads accepting positions for Account Rep.

Lay off one, hire another. Lay off tenured well paid coworkers, hire someone for $30k

Wonder why sports franchises don't just start all rookies and cut everyone else.

Some waited until today to post on LinkedIn.

All the same messages.

I feel great!
I feel vindicated!
I predicted all this as I quit ahead of them doubling down on their fix for the business.

It'll get worse as they'll need to continue buybacks and layoffs while maintaining rev and profit numbers. Anyone that isn't on-board... better start revising that resume and actively search for a new gig.

Anyone stuck there is because of money. Stop spending and start saving so you can free yourself. It's tougher now with less pay but that's how the corporate machine keeps you.

But being right feels so good. Not to gloat too much but I knew most CDW "leaders" were d-mb. Now they have all the receipts.

Hope everyone is annoying managers and directors with annoying tough questions on this fine Monday.

Not good. I lost some really good coworkers and mentors this go around. The cuts have disrupted projects and I'm scrambling to figure out where we go from here. I'm demoralized, feeling guilty that I survived the cut while some brilliant engineers got shown the door, and I have no faith that our leadership will turn this sinking ship around. I'm tired, boss.

Not good. It's clear to me that Leahy and the clowns at the top are flailing and it is just going to be a continued cycle of layoffs going forward, along with silly reorgs which accomplish nothing except confusion and anger. I've had more managers the past 18 months than I've had in the previous 10 years of my career.
