Interview Tips

Hey everyone! Does anyone have any recent job interview tips? It’s been a long time since I last interviewed, so I’m feeling a bit rusty. Please post some tips if you have any!

Ask them many specific questions that show you researched the job. You're interviewing them too.

For the interview just be yourself but that's not the problem, it's getting to the interview that's the problem. I would estimate that for every 100 applications you might get 2 interviews if you're lucky.

Smile before/as you hit the record button and don't stop smiling until you hit the stop recording button. It really stands out to me, people who are not smiling and not seeming very excited and happy to be interviewing. I get that recorded video interviews su-k, but you will stand out if you are smiling and looking happy and state that you're excited and thankful for the opportunity to be interviewing and what you liked about the job description and how it's a good fit for you. Have that memorized to say for your introduction.

Be yourself. Hopefully that is a positive thing lol. Being nervous is not a good look, they want people which a good personality who is a joy to be around and work with.

@a9 I have not done one of those in years. If you’re a good fit many companies will bypass that step and go onto face to face interviews.

That’s another thing, make sure you can sell yourself to fit the position. With this job market it’s hard to go after that bucket list job. Worry about that when you get your foot in the door.

@OP Right! It's been a long long time for me!

I have never done one of the record yourself answering questions from a screen, first level of interview. I would think it must be so weird to not have a person on the other end, no verbal confirmation that your answer met their expectation or follow up question if they wanted/ needed more in depth answer.

Just the sound of my own voice and the voices in my head wondering if I am giving crazy eyes while attempting to look natural on camera. LoL.

I would say, if you get invited to interview for a job do it! Even if they have already confirmed a salary too low or no work from home opportunities. Do it for the practice, rather work out the jitters on early interviews that don't feel as important.

Study prior to interview. Have a very good understanding of the company and how your skill set matches the position. You should be able to have a conversational type of interaction with the interviewer. Preparing thoroughly will help accomplish that.

Have a friend or family member do role playing with you. Let them interview you.

Smile and seem personable! Laugh! Your resume speaks for itself, they’re interviewing your personality at that point, you will do great! Best wishes!, you got this!
