Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Underwriting Re-assignments to Claims and Financial Services

I just saw a new department message about another round of underwriting associates getting moved to claims. Pages after pages of names, poor souls.

For the folks still in underwriting: Has managment become more aggressive, threatning layoffs?

I don't have any buddies left in that department, so I don't know what sort of pitch they are giving you guys.

@19c I'm assuming you do not work for SF because what you said is not true. The claims dept that starts new homeowners claims- those jobs went offshore. Most of those employees were put in other claims depts, but those remaining got an exit offer.

@19c Ok, whatever. The company swears they need every warm body they have while behind the curtain they are running a diabolical masterclass in psychological warfare against their workers designed to make certain people (tenured with higher salary) quit so they can save the company some money. They do it every few years like clockwork now.

No exit offers for claims. They need people.

Its mostly service, for which almost none have agreed to go to claims. Claims has such a horrific internal reputation that people would rather be fired then go there and keep working, which is sad.

Service is being replaced by offshore people more than AI, since our AI is non-functional in most cases. Production, which is the dream-job no phones task work only roles are planned to be phased out by new tech, auto is mostly there, fire hasn't started the transition.

Phone underwriting is fine, lots of elderly people close to retirement, more chose the buyout than they asked for, and took all who offered to leave, so unlikely any movement there for a long time, which is good.

Underwriting has turned into more or less "do whatever you need to do to make the agency happy" rather than making good business decisions. Once you phase out the backend production underwriters i fully expect UW losses to spike, they were the last line against agency bullies and "customer service first"

Lots of people posting here who don't know anything and make stuff up, not sure why that is. Yes WFH people have intense monitoring, the system knows if your hand is on your mouse even if your not moving it, it will trigger a quick screen capture, AI monitors what you say, and your manager is already a micromanager helicopter parent so you know they are sitting there watching the call states anyway.

I feel really bad for all the people who drank the koolaid during the 2015 era close every office down and scare everyone, those who moved to a hub were greatly punished for it, and those who stayed put regardless of the threat of job loss were rewarded greatly with WFH. I still cant believe the company did that and wont let the people who moved, return home, due to pointless in office requirements, which only exist so that manager can closely watch you and no other reason, no matter what they gaslight you on as the real reason for RTO.

I dunno, it just feels like everyone's given up, top down, and just waiting the drain this once great company of its reserves before moving on. Look at who they hire, all tech people, they don't seem to have any interest in being a good insurance company.

@d7 I hope so. Because every day I'm logged in, I'm saying I can't do this much longer. But I need the time, space, and energy to look for something else or build my side hustle back up.

They are saving the "professional" underwriters and offering them other jobs within the company but totally giving the para-professional underwriting service associates the shaft. SF wants the face of the company to have degrees and look a certain way while all other workers get severance and put out like a cat on the porch. Our job, the technical part that AI can't figure out, is getting outsourced while underwriters, easily automated, get saved. I hate this company.

My favorite thing to do is go to the 6th floor in CitylLine and watch the "large" heard, 4x wide stroll by. It's like being down at the DMV or getting ready to get in a 50% off Carnival cruise check in line. I moved over from Geico last year and hate that company too. It's just the industry but I do agree with the previous posts, most of the people I see look like they just crawled out of the bed or came out of the homeless shelter. Sad this is what corporate America has become, just mirrors our society. I'm just looking to leave the industry....

@b9 I love these posts. They read like fan fiction. Like the people that fell for the stories about schools letting kids act like dogs and cats by providing food and water bowls. Hey, did you know gullible isn't in the dictionary? Look it up!

@b9 and no I don't think they want the best. They want the cheapest labor possible that keeps the DOIs off their backs.

@b9 i started in Murfreesboro in Injury right when lockdown hit. WFH 6.5yrs. We we never forced to relocate to a hub, it was just "strongly suggested for career advancement." (Which is true since there are much fewer promotional opportunities posted for Remotes.)

I get people who believed in the company and relo'ed on their dime would be pi---d that WFH is still here.

I just wanted to call out we're micromanaged just like the Hubs and it is "leadership" that wants WFH vs RTO as a distraction. If there are lazy WFH people that's a management issue. If they continue to slide, bark at mgmt. I'd expect the same for goofs in the Hub.

Corporate wants WFH gone b/c we have typically here longer and remember our SF history. Mgmt needs to erase the past for their koolaide narratives to be effective.

@b4 Do you honestly think they have any interest in keeping and hiring the best employees? How long has it been since you went to a hub or ever? It's a literal ghetto, the parking garages/elevators smell like weed, half the people smell because they don't bath, they wear their hello kitty pajamas to work, have every form of nose piecing, neck tattoos and face tattoos!!!! It's a burn and churn, pump and dump, burger worker scam! Keeps salary expenses at a minimum. This has been the case ever since the flipped Jake over! Yes Execs has to justify their existence and they see you as disposable trash! This place is embarrassing!

Are not work from home workstations monitored exactly the same as an office workstations?

Are not phone calls monitored the sameand AI used to report on tone and work choice and professionalism?

If there is any kind of discrimination going on, please provide hard evidence because I would love to get in on that class action lawsuit.

Would it not make sense to retain the best employees regardless of location?

In office versus work from home is just a corporate distraction from management to keep you from seeing what's going on behind the curtain.

Don't worry they will! The demise is real! The next 12 months are going to be like nothing we have ever seen. The cancerous workforce and culture that is in place now is beyond anything that is fixable. MT and now JF are literally driving the nails in the coffin. Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there! It has turned into a dangerous neighborhood that people are trying to sell their houses, taking their kids out of the schools, renters are moving in and cars are now getting broken into at the mall. Grab a beer and watch this one....holy sh-t! Total delusional clown show!

LOL! Poor souls is right! They are trying to get rid of as many people as possible, delusional. The burger flippers they hired in claims are a disaster, and I think they think the U/W folks will be able to replace all the people that are going to leave and/or replace in remote jobs too. JF is just MT clone and maybe a little worse. They have no clue what they are doing and now it is being driven by the check the box incompetent leadership hires. You haven't seen anything yet, the spiral is going to get faster and faster!
