Anyone have experience negotiating your exit from a HQ role? Not getting laid off. Leaving on your own terms when you and your leader agree the work has changed enough to not fit. Open roles are scarce for my intended trajectory.

Hi, I have heard different things from different people. If you resign, there is no negotiation. If you are on a PIP, there is little chance of negotiating. Just note that if you retire from Target, they may let you keep your RSUs and discount. However, your EDCP may be triggered to start making payments, which can have negative tax implications if you are jumping into a new role and want to stay within a certain tax bracket.

@b0 depends on the level. If you’re an L7+, they might negotiate with you.
There is no negotiation. Once you give notice you have no cards to play.
Thinking about stock incentives that haven’t vested. Even some weeks of pay. Seems like some people have been leaving in the past year with mutual separation. Nothing lined up and seems like they might get a deal going out. Like pre-empting the need for someone else to end up on the RIF list so maybe they get a goodbye bonus by agreeing to go sooner than later.
Curious OP, what do you consider 'your own terms' specifically?
I don’t understand what you are asking? You either leave on your own accord or you don’t.
Just give a 2 week notice and go find something that is a better fit. They aren’t going to pay you to leave if that is what you’re looking for.

I'd also be interested in hearing how others have approached this and whether it was successful. The scope of work I'm responsible for, along with the number of hours required, simply isn't sustainable long term.
