If you feel that way and believe that, then why are you reading posts and writing posts on a website called, www.thelayoff.com ???
The very name itself means posters will commiserate and complain about their employers (Citi), LAYOFFS (in case you didn't read the website's name), low salaries, the CEO, the C-Suite, heavy workload, long work hours, bad managers, H1Bs & Temps/Contractors taking their jobs, No promotions, bad company policies, reduced medical insurance coverage, reduced pension benefits, etc. etc. etc..
Perhaps you should waste time on a different website called www.iloveciti.com.

we live in a capitalist society. capitalism doesn't care about "morality", doesn't care about your happiness, doesn't care about your neighbor's happiness, and doesn't care about how hard or how much you work.
capitalism cares about returns. the bigger the better.
if businesses and business barons (or baronesses) go to far, they won't be able to attract the labor needed to achieve those returns, and they will fail.
your beef shouldn't be with Citi, or Jane. if society, including technology, has evolved to a point where less labor is required to achieve maximal returns, then that just means there is too much labor available, which should in a true free market economy, lower the cost of labor.
that's how things work in a free market economy. sorry if things aren't going your way.
perhaps you should move to a different country that is less capitalistic, or simply lower your expectations.

@af The reason is money. At the root of all things illogical, immoral, unethical, evil, shocking, ruthless etc - is money. These soulless monsters have no moral compass and sleep just fine ruining middle class families en masse to make a buck. And it's never enough. Greed is an illness. An addiction. Greed for money and power (which comes from money). And just like any addiction, you'll do anything to keep the party going. It's never enough and no one else is ever important enough not to step on to get there. Ask 20k of your coworkers. Ask hundreds of thousands of other people in similar roles in other organizations. Someone else wanting to make a lot of money is the reason I am out of a job and not making any. At some point, the middle-class economy will collapse and then who will these wealthy people get their money from? It's a short-term strategy. What's it say about a person who fires 20k people and then gives herself a $20 Million dollar raise - on top of the $20 million she was already getting? - and God knows how much more she's making manipulating her own stock. Disgusting example of a human.
@a8 So Jane Fraser has accomplished what no one else in the world has managed so far, which to actually replace human workers with agentic artificial intelligence without regard to edge cases and exceptions and without having first fixed the data that feeds the bots.
She need to explain to the rest of humanity how she managed that monumental accomplishment.
Or perhaps is was not AI after all. Perhaps it was really the tried and true dumping of laid-off employees' work to the remaining staff, or the backfilling of jobs to low GDP countries.

You can't just fire one of the most powerful woman in the world. But it's sad to see the way things are happening. There is no reason to layoff hard working citizens and replace them with cheap contractors or unskilled immigrants.
You know she put herself on the board of directors right? Objectively she's doing the right thing for stockholders. She's making them and herself money. Leveraging AI to shave off 20% of her FTE, and shifting to more high-profile banking is genius. It's short term of course. As AI takes over and eliminates 20-30% of the workforce the economy will collapse for the middle class. Only Oligarchs like herself will survive and chew on the bones of the people she stepped on. Granted, she's soulless, has zero morale compass and down right evil. All attributes to make a lot of money. So, no. No one is going to fire her. Her goal is one thing, make certain wealthy people more wealthy. And she's doing it. She's a Trumper, birds of a feather..
