Are Op Positions Still A Thing

Over the past year, I’ve been keeping an eye on internal opportunities because my current role may be impacted any day now and definitely will be before the end of the year. One thing I’ve noticed is that I rarely see U.S.-based operational positions (BEC, Senior BEC, Leads, etc.). Most of the openings I come across appear to be in India, and U.S. operational postings seem few and far between almost extinct and obsolete.
Is anyone else seeing the same thing, or is it just the types of roles I’m searching for? I know these company believes several roles are replaceable by using AI instead.

I’m genuinely curious whether this is a broader trend or if Workday has limited/filter me out of internal roles.

For context, I’m not looking to debate whether I should stay with the company. I have my own reasons for wanting to pursue internal opportunities first. I’m mainly interested in whether others have observed the same hiring pattern.

Thank you for your time

Does India have an H-1B program for displaced Americans? Perhaps it might be best to explore this option?

Internal postings maybe be a trap to expose people who are not "towing the line." Once you apply, they know. The current climate is a terrible time for this.

Displaced. But I'd actually come back provided my manager would even hire me back.

Thanks, everyone, for all the thoughtful responses. I really appreciate the different perspectives.

Just to add some context: I wasn’t actively browsing Workday or looking for a new role before the layoff announcements. I’ve been genuinely happy in my current position. I enjoy the work, have a great work-life balance, and I’m fortunate to have an amazing manager who has been incredibly supportive over the years.

Honestly, I didn’t even realize I’ve been in this role for over five years until recently. I’ve been happy where I am, I simply wasn’t paying close attention to the internal job market.

Thanks again to everyone who shared their experiences and insights!

You need to get out of Ops. They'll send everything over to India when they get the chance. That or just AI.

Good chance they are waiting for Trump to be out of office to pick it back up. They'll want to stay out of his cross hairs until that happens

Also if you received anything less than a meets in the new “check-ins” it’s the mark of death when it comes to any internal movement.

Yes, this is absolutely true and has been for years. As a manager, if a US operations position opens up (mainly due to voluntary attrition), my bosses only ask 2 questions: 1) Do you even need to fill this position? 2) If the answer to #1 is 'yes' then, Can this be filled by an offshore hire? And if it's an 'add to staff' position due to business growth, then don't even consider posting domestic.

@OP you are correct. but unless you just started @ WF a month ago. this has been happening for years and you haven't been paying attention. US Ops roles are rare these days. Internal hires are low on the pecking order vs external/"my buddy needs a job" fills. Also because OPs roles are posted don't necessarily mean they are "open" a lot those roles are already "spoken for" and the posting/interviews are more a formality than anything. Sorry.

Ops will be amongst the groups most heavily affected by AI as human-driven transactional activities are replaced. This includes taking calls (call center as an agent) and as many processing tasks Ops leadership can identify. In addition, Ops has had the most positions eliminated due to US location strategy with entire centers (Hillsboro, Lubbock, Boise, etc) shut down and the roles move to I&P or US core cities. Ops recently announced the further reduction core markets further impacting cities like Raleigh, SLC, and others. Expect Ops roles to continue to shrink heavily for the foreseeable future due to all those factors.
