Thread regarding Fidelity National Information Services Inc. layoffs

Internal Job Opportunity

Since all of the layoffs over the past 6-12 months, I’ve been actively applying for internal and external jobs. I finally got an interview internally, but I’m curious what are everyone’s opinions on what parts of the company would not be worth moving to? Thanks all, have a good week.

I wouldn't move to Wealth, Retirement or basically anything in Banking.

@OP better search a job externally, you are not safe as long as you are in this company.

The mainframe groups were also hit by the RIF. Lost some key support people with decades of experience. This last wave proved no one is safe from the BS.

Lots of negativity on this post, not sure why. Personally, I would look at an internal job change as a temporary solution. I think every single corner of FIS will eventually be hit by layoffs. Nothing wrong with looking inside FIS but I would continue to look externally.

I was struggling with the same thing, eventually left FIS and it was the best decision I ever made

@at there was a recent post about having an important client facing position with years of employment and solid relationships with clients, who was laid off. The poster discussed contacting his clients so they would know what happened (severance terms may prohibit this, however, this happened in the immediate aftermath). Imagine the impact on those relationships? FIS has made clear that they believe anyone can be trained to do anything in ninety days, relationships be damned. Except, of course, Stephanie or Bob's job, only THEY have the special skills to sc--w up that badly.

Are you serious? You can't decide on your own?

@at yeah, they signed a ten year contract with Franklin Templeton, look at how that turned out. Talk about wasted talent and total failure!

@OP these are really hard decisions to make in the current environment. Some time ago, a colleague took an internal promotion with a substantial raise. Of course, he was so pleased; he worked very hard to learn, easing the burden of the tenured staff. About six months later, he was laid off, unceremoniously. It was an isolated budget thing, nothing to do with his performance. He was completely shocked. It took over a year for him to find another job. For his family, it was catastrophic financially. He was devastated. An internal promotion is no guarantee of stability at FIS. At this company there is no such thing.

@ab considering they just signed contracts for clients and require support. It’s better job security than any other role at this company.
Also knock COBOL all you want, but it’s what banks love.

@a4 COBOL? High profile? Are you joking?

I’d try to find something with billable hours/client facing. Auto Finance (systematics) has some high profile positions open if you have COBOL experience.
