VEC-5G Home ready

Anyone on the 5G Home ready team affected? BDM's, AD's, Directors? This program has been going with no actual traction. Sooo many delays with roll out and build outs its insane.

@ts Hardly.

VEC doesn't sell incremental units in footprint. They don't sell. At all.

If there's a VEC unit it's retired in consumer, online, alt channels, etc.

It's why Weston was unsuccessful at putting them back on sales comp from an HR standpoint. They don't directly sell anything.

If you take GATBs and subtract Discos (NATB, but they aren't measured that way, because it's depressing), you don't even get a lot of units... There's a lot of overhead to generate those small returns. If you want to keep you job, don't do the math.

Out of footprint is even worse.

VEC will be the sole reason the company turns around.

@dv Other than the female directly in charge, I supported a ton of old white dudes. And a few middle aged ones, as well. Just like the board. And the C-suites.

Just like myself.

You're out of your depth. Go home and babble at the chair where your ex-wife once sat, before she left too.

@dq Anthony should have been at least the next Janocha and/or eventually Weston.

All because he lived in VA, not NJ.

Company shoots itself in the foot regularly, then wonders why it hurts.

@b4 dont be so sure. Wait till they fully transition frontier and starry employees. When you are on that list and get that call one day you will remember this post

Lots of VEC comments...just go to eweb and look at the leaders of that unit. You will get the answer on inability to execute. Then look at eweb for those Directors when FWA was rolled out. DEI ki-ls execution. VEC was more focused on BS volunteer hours and Pulse participation % (not the outputs).

Vz problem in general they let HR dictate strategy with HR DEI requirements of the Biden protective class. As we say in the south..some dogs can't hunt.

The reality 5G Hr will fail and the VP Power point slide will blame others and claim "not my idea"

Verizon is trying to replicate what Google did when it paused its fiber rollout a decade ago by acquiring Webpass, which uses a similar rooftop-based deployment model.

The difference is that Verizon hasn't dedicated the level of focus, resources, or experienced leadership needed to make this successful. Instead of building a team with deep experience in this space, key leadership roles have been filled by people without the necessary background (coming straight from retail stores and B2B) and product ownership has lacked the execution needed to get the initiative off the ground. That's a big reason this launch has struggled over the past two years.

Another post was right that Weston and D'Angelo were instrumental in creating VEC. With both now gone, there has been a noticeable leadership gap. At the same time, the organization expanded rapidly, with contractors and newly hired employees being assigned major portfolios almost immediately, with no thought how this strategy could be detrimental to existing relationships. That approach has created inconsistency and slowed execution.

This wasn't a technology problem—it was an execution and leadership problem.

I’m in Vec but not the home ready side. I have no idea how cuts didn’t happen this round, after the frontier merger our territories are so saturated and capacity changes basically have eliminated FWA.

@a5 Do.you think these layoffs will keep coming? For those who got lucky this time, do you think there's anything worthwhile staying? My spouse has been employed by VZW for 20+ years. And while he he feels blessed to be employed (for now) with great benefits and pay, it does worry him that he'll face the chopping block sooner than later. What's sad is that he is in his 50s. I truly pray for all the people let go presently. I hope they're able to get a great job that provides stability.

8th wonder of the world. How VEC created multiple Director/AD jobs to support a failed science experiment.

Project was created by former President in Consumer who got VSP 4 years ago.. zero ownership.

Fact not eliminated shows how much Sr Executives are not about results

I directly supported Weston and his organization... His Finance contact.

Was a truly good guy; but that project was a mess from day one. Vendor issues. Cuts. Inept management from a Director in NYC.

He knew in March '25 when we had a sitdown for a cup of coffee it was going sideways. Mike was PC as always, but working with the guy for a decade you could read between the lines. His three right hand guys (one left for MS, two retired), you could tell the winds of change.

I found greener pastures outside of VZ as well.

The folks in charge now don't know the business, and formerly ran an indirect channel into the ground, but, that's why VZ keeps failing. Choosing the same folks repeatedly who continue to fail.

It may launch in '27 from the folks I know still in the business. I had subscriber forecast commitments since August '25. From Weston himself. Not worth the paper it was written on.
