New here, and I've heard that when people get laid off, they're immediately escorted out of the building. I can't believe that's true. It would be so disrespectful.

Actually, that's the norm in corporate America nowadays.
Honestly, it depends. If you are part of a large layoff of 100 or more, then yes. However, I was laid off with a small group — these are not announced, and something called the WARN act required them to give us 60 days, with full pay and benefits, to try to find another role (if we chose). After 60 days, if we decided not to — or couldn’t — find another role, then we could accept the severance and still manage the optics of our departure (ie, send a goodbye email to co-workers saying I’m choosing to move on to “my next adventure” but let’s stay in touch, etc)
Totally true. Wouldn't want you to take a pen that Target owns!
