While Meta didn't pay Yann LeCun enough to stay, Brown came from AWS, so it was a cheaper hire option :)

Amazon used to poach employees, but they aren't competitive on comp anymore, layoff heavy and have the uber annoying RTH/RTT/RTO5 cr-p. Obviously a more AI-focused company like Meta has bigger more reserved for good hires instead of new datacenters. But why would Meta care about being a Cloud provider? Just go for a more price competitive option like GCP or Azure.
Don't get PIP'd at Meta... that $12.5M signing bonus looks so good on paper, but...
What's the deal with Meta cloud? Is it another Metaverse?
