Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Anyone Else Interested in Voting Out the Union?

What if Verizon rewarded performance instead of seniority? A non-union workplace could allow merit-based raises, faster promotions, and stronger one-on-one relationships between employees and management. High performers should have the opportunity to stand out and be recognized.

If unionized Verizon employees wanted to remove their union, there is a formal legal process under U.S. labor law. It isn’t something the company can simply decide, nor can a small group of employees do on their own.

In general, the process is:

  1. Employees file a decertification petition with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
  2. At least 30% of employees in the bargaining unit must support holding an election by signing a petition or authorization cards.
  3. The NLRB determines whether an election is appropriate. There are timing rules—for example, elections generally cannot be held during the term of a valid collective bargaining agreement except during a specific “window period” before the contract expires (subject to NLRB rules and exceptions).
  4. A secret-ballot election is held.
  5. If a majority of employees who vote choose “no union,” the union is decertified as the bargaining representative.

Use that like button to cast your vote.

@dp Skill , talent, ideas , commitment have nothing to do with the decision to lay a employee off. Ask the thousands of VZ former employees who worked hard and were let go .

@bq nope, I have good pay and benefits thanks to my education and skillset. In the real world that is what pay is based on.

@ag people like this who can’t spell just prove my point.

@ap @de, the fact that your first thought is about being laid off is a Freudian slip. You know that the union is due for a force adjustment and reorg and you don’t believe that you would be an employee worth keeping.

@bb I’m not worried about a pink slip because I can provide value. Can you?

@OP Hans was non-union. He was rewarded between $19-$24 millions per year for his performance. I could cite many other examples that prove that your argument that non-union rewards good performance doesn’t hold any water.

Yes, let's get rid of the union. I love working for peanuts and no benefits and having the company be able to fire me on a whim just so they can make the stock price go up ten cents!

You don’t need to stay in the Union. Quit and go find yourself a nice non union job. You’re obviously a superstar that needs to get the recognition you deserve. But you’re more likely to get a pink slip.

@OP That’s hilarious! 😂 Bravo! 👏

The non-union divisions of Verizon don’t reward performance. They’re constantly trying to get rid of employees (even high performers) and replace them with cheaper alternatives.

Don’t take my word for it! Apply there and see for yourself. And BTW, you need to be black belt and kissing up and office politics or you’re doomed.

Scabs are the worst for of sc-m. Unions protect employees, while bootlickers support indescriminate and unlawful layoffs.

Give up being an associate with Union and give up pension and some protection to become company and get out sourced to HCL. Years ago it may have been OK bit no longer as CO su-ks with changen of title and lost bonus no more retirement along with just and trust them.

@OP this is super disingenuous , you aren’t simply asking people opinions then offering all that info. Not to mention you have a 0.0% chance of getting 30% to vote to decertify in both CWA or IBEW.
I mean come on dude, these boards are flooded with people asking how to join a union with all these RIFFS….but nice try.

You are also asking on a LAYOFF message board for a vote to decertify from a Union. How does that even remotely makes sense to you? 😂 99% of the people here are non Union as that is the demographic related to the current layoffs.

Again….nice try.

Unfortunately your logic is flawed. Hard work goes unnoticed and good people get canned. Might as well keep some job security. I know 3 guys who have left the IBEW for "management" positions. Wanna guess who didn't make the last round of lay offs?? That's right all 3 were canned. Management targets anyone that came over from the union before they layoff their own.

On the flip side, I have been here for 20 years and not one single union member has been laid off or fired. Hard pass.

it’s usually those without seniority that dislikes seniority. In a performance based workplace, the only true winner is the company. The union is here to protect the workers and not the performance of the workplace. plenty of ambitious people can claim the ladder. You don’t need to change seniority in order to do that.

@98Yea, like the workplace where associates are not allowed access to software to manipulate production results, yet those associates competitive makes them violate code of conduct..managers allow them to manipulate software to get their higher results.Verizon ntegrity score 0

That's called management. Leave the union if that's what you're looking for. Best thing I ever did, just wish I hadn't waited so damn long to do it.
