Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

U.S. Bank CEO Gunjan Kedia announced remote employees are grandfathered in during today's All Company Townhall!

While the bank is seemingly pursuing a direction where employees must return to an office for 60%+ of their time, during today's All Company Townhall CEO Gunjan Kedia announced that remote employees are "grandfathered in". It is unclear the extent of this decision from the leader of the 5th largest bank in the country, and whether employees who were remote but have since been forced into an office in conflict with their own wishes will have the option to return to remote work.

Many employees have been speculating that groups within the company will begin forcing remote employees to pick a home hub location or face termination with cause by end of this year. Will this new direction from the CEO help assuage these fears? Kedia very clearly outlined that remote roles are no longer being hired for with the exception of Customer Service representatives, which apparently is cost effective enough for the bank that the Managing Committee couldn't be bothered to upset these employees lives for the sake of their own commercial real estate investments.

Kedia was also proud to note that the bank is continuing to honor remote employees who have a legitimate medical accommodation, but did not note that this is a legal requirement under the ADA.

She said we have too many and that needs to be addressed. There are reports being generated that HR is talking with managers about. Severance situation.

@bc if you are told to become “non remote” and cannot move etc. you will be let go with severance.

As a remote employee, I don't buy for a moment that we are grandfathered into any kind of protection from RTO. GK danced around the issue, rather poorly without providing a definitive answer. I only have one question. Will remote employees, if targeted for RTO, and unable to comply, be laid off for severance, or be terminated for cause? It matters because of eligibility for severance. What is the most recent experience for remote employees? We're seeing conflicting reports on the layoff boards.

Yeah, she was about as clear as mud when it comes to Remote employees. "Grandfathered" makes little sense, when some of us are literally being told by our directs: RTO by EOY...or else. Today didn't add much clarity, and it damn sure didn't rally any troops.

Did anybody else notice the Teams emoji stream today?

Remote employees will be grandfather in for the rest of their careers. Which will come to an end by the end of the year.

And she said if remote employees wanted a long term career, move near a hub.

And she also said several times about searching for other jobs

Op is obviously a bootlicker

As a remote employee, this take isn’t the impression I got at all. GK’s response was vague and her choice of words very specific like she was intentionally dancing around the answer with the help of legal. I feel even less confident about the future of my position after today’s meeting.

@a7

As opposed to your 100% bootlicking?

That isn’t what I heard. I heard there are some positions grandfathered in and select positions (insert remote leaders if we connect dots) will be impacted. It felt like a flighty response and I’ll be waiting for them to tell me to relocate or my remote leader role is eliminated and I’ll be severanced. I don’t believe any of it. I also heard “short term accommodations” - guessing something will change with those yearly renewals that are longer term. It’s all sad. But the stakeholders are killin it! Love that for them

GK and JR and LG might all want to sit down and get on the same page as the latter have already started laying off these so called “grandfathered” remote employees in their org. What a sh!t show this company is.

Telling us our jobs are dead end jobs is a great way to rally the troops…
