This weekend has been a roller coaster of emotions. One minute I feel confident that I made the right decision by signing the VSP, and the next I'm asking myself, "What have I done?"
Twenty years with one company... and this is how it ends. It's a strange feeling to close such a significant chapter of my life.
For those of you who also signed the VSP or are going through a major career transition, how are you feeling? I'd love to know I'm not alone in this.

I know I made the right decision and I have already been given the heads up that my application has been approved. I have no idea what I'm going to do next, which is both exciting and scary. I thought I was going to go down one career path and now it's... WELP, so much for that. I have a type A personality and like to plan for everything, so this is completely out of my element.

@OP I know what you're going through. I was at a job for 12.5 years before, and within the first 5 years I was convinced that I would probably retire from there.
Then, on a Friday morning one day 12.5 years came to an end with 1 meeting with HR that lasted 10-15 minutes. That was it.
Then, life got better. 60% pay increase, and then the next job after that was on the order of 16% pay increase again. Proof that loyalty does not pay. It really is just a job at the end of the day, and the grass can be greener on the other side.
I hope you learned your lesson to look out for yourself first over looking out for your employer beyond what you do for your pay check.
@OP 7 years. Best job I ever had. Allowed me to be mentally stable for the most part and allowed me to afford a savings account and travel every year.
It will be bittersweet and exhilaratingly anxiety ridden to be start over and mix in with “normal” people lol but I trust the man upstairs and myself through this new season of my life!

I'm truly in the same boat. I'm wondering if I should have taken the VSP and moved on, since I fear Centene is going to come crashing down or at minimum, those who are left will have some much work and additional tasks dumped on them to offset those who will be laid-off. Not sure there is a good answer in all of this! I've been with the company 13 years and hearing about the VP who has sued Centene for ageism, I'm terrified. I wanted to retire from this company, but now I feel every year (or less) is touch-an-go. I went from being so proud to be a part of this company to now trying to avoid telling anyone where I work. Sad.
I think it’s safe that most of us feel that way. Honestly, I didn’t take it and question every day if I made the right decision. Many days I feel as though I didn’t make the right decision. I think it’s perfectly normal to question it either way. Best of luck to you!
I wonder if I should have taken it. I’ll be on a roller coaster for the next 2 yrs with this company, if I last that long. You most likely saved your self a lot of stress by taking the VSP. Good luck to all!!!
No need to stress. I know it’s very cliche but things happen for a reason. Change is hard but often there’s a silver lining.
