Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Wells Fargo Survivor. Outwit. Outplay. Outlast.

Know more than your boss - that’s not too difficult these days. Become the expert. Reverse the boss and subordinate role. Knowledge is power.

They want us to collaborate, right? Create a coalition. Cultivate relationships and then use your power as a group to exert influence.

Read a good book on the Power of Persuasion. So simple and effective, your bosses won’t know what hit them. Use it to argue for or against ideas and decisions that have a materiel impact on you and your coworkers.

Document more than you think you should. You recommended against a change and noted the potential downstream effects to your bosses and they moved forward anyway? Write it all down. Names, dates, conversations, everything. They will deny and deflect — protect thyself. Your manager encourage you to cut costs, increase profits in a way that goes against Code of Conduct? Document.

They want you to cross-train? Detail your job duties for “workforce sustainability”? Suuure - give them the bare basics. Don’t share the secrets that help you to be more efficient and effective. The “old me” would have naively handed over everything. The “new me” has watched too many good people be shown the door.

Learn to say no in a tactful way and set solid boundaries. Nobody was on their deathbed wishing they had worked more in life.

Godspeed.

As rule of thumb, know this... "what they say" is usually the complete opposite of "what they do".

Knowledge = Something you can obtain from your education and job experience

Information = Awareness of current events/environment, upcoming events, hidden management strategies/agenda and political dynamics

In order to win the battle/war, you have to have both. You may be an expert on something, but the "Information" part can be controlled/manipulated/blocked by your enemies (executives/managers).

Thank you, OP!!

I would guess that at least 1/3 of the employees are here, trying to survive, waiting for their severance. Another 1/3 have busy lives and don’t have the time and bandwidth to shop for another job right now. For those, on this thread, who enjoy playing the Contrarian- we are all in different spots in our lives. What speaks to someone else might not speak to you.

Some of my friends have become so beaten down in the last 4 years that I like the idea of empowering them. It’s a good thing to remind employees that they have some cards left in the game.

Yes, the corrupt WF leaders hide a lot of key information from employees, and they know that information is power. They do this excessively because of two reasons: they are insecure and greedy.

This is not quiet quitting. This is someone who thinks he can "survive" and will bear the pain of it. But as @isp+1oJJVaAH says its the hunger games at Wells and not Survivor.
Back to "quiet quitting". You must analyze the benefits of being laid off (severance) against the pain of staying and the pain of outright quitting. Don't increase the pain of staying by "documenting".
Consider that your job is already gone. Persuade yourself that their should be no bargaining (documenting) process in this grief.... let it go. Who is going to read these documents?

There is an underground old boys club at every company. They hide everything behind the curtain, keep their own special privileges and protect each other. They think they are the puppet masters.

"Know more than your boss - that’s not too difficult these days."

But WF executives and managers intentionally hide a lot of important information from us. They also know knowledge is power, and that's how they protect their job security and control us. They always bring this overused excuse "Need to know basis!".

I was not hired by a bank manager because she felt threatened by me knowing my knowledge exceeded hers.

OP likes making a mountain out of a molehill.

Instead of listening to the OP, re-direct all that energy and effort to finding another job at a company that will truly value you and is growing, not going down the drain.

It’s not survivor, it’s the Hunger Games here.
