What is really sad is there have been numerous papers presented to them from as far back as 2017.
Now every week average people are posting videos on the Lightning and Mach E and it is not a pretty picture.

I confirm what @1mpj is stating. Many / too many studies to predict realistic range and pain points with range and charging. Also independent reports by AAA and others were known which drove internal studies. Towing studies also showed even lower ranges due to higher tow loads. D. P. was presented this and chose not to be forthcoming as he feared media would use it as click bait and tarnish BEVs.

for the people who down voted the post about EVs being forced on us by powerful people above auto ceo's and board members... really? Everybody knows we don't have the infrastructure, charging, chemicals, batteries, minerals, etc. and everybody knows that the climate change/carbon discussion is bogus yet EV's are being FORCED on us....it's not up to Fartley and Mary B. .... just take your injections, eat your bugs, and drive your EV's and shut up about it.

I can tell you without a doubt he was informed of range and charging issues as far back as 2+ yrs ago. And so was the almighty Darren Palmer. Hmmm where is he these days? Endless engineering teams have taken testing road trips and all clearly reported the results. The execs never wanted to hear the truth. Well, welcome to the truth everyone in PD told you soooo many times ago.

Earlier in this century when Ford refused the government bailout, I applauded the company. After being a Chevrolet for decades, I soured on GM for taking the bribe - er, I mean bailout! - and bought a new Ford Taurus that I am still driving today. For years I took joy in watching the incredulous stares of GM employees when I told them they lost me as a customer over the bailout. Then this derelict Ford executive Farley invested billions in a politically fashionable but totally useless technology and now has the company in a death spiral losing billions in revenue annually. Alarms are sounding but instead of righting the ship, Farley pulls off this embarrassing stunt that showcases his utter cluelessness. My Taurus is a very good vehicle, a real credit to Ford employees at all levels, and I plan to drive it for ca. 250,000 or more miles. After that.......who knows?.......perhaps if Farley and his ilk are long gone and next person that warms his chair rectifies matters, I will buy another Ford automobile.

I left Ford 17 years ago due to incompetent management. The current CEO makes the reigns of Jac Nasser and Bill Ford look like the genius era.

I wrote on this site a few months ago that only dunces would bet the whole company on EVs because they are not practical for most consumers due to "insufficient range and long charging times."

I have not worked in the automotive industry in 17 years and knew that fact. Ford spends tens of millions of dollars annually on market research, and it takes its CEO to fly to California to take a 3-day drive to find out that EVs are not practical for long trips.

My 15-year-old 1973 Chevrolet Nova (that cost $520 used in 1983) with over 120,000 miles in 1988 made a similar trip with only 2 stops for gasoline that took 5 minutes each. Its 307 V8 engine was based on 1950s technology!

My 2009 Honda Accord V6 (that cost $28,000 new) with 151,000 miles currently could cover the same distance as Farley's $80,000+ Ford Lightning with one 5-minute gasoline refill and still have 3/4 of a tank fuel remaining. It's 3.5L V6 was designed in the mid-1990s.

Henry Ford must be rolling over in his grave!

  2. I agree that there is no change, but that means we are marching towards the cliff with blinders on.
  3. By saying that those guys made the right call with company strategy, you are proving what @sow said about the dopes on this board making excuses for the nitwits in charge. We are not heading in the right direction because the technology is not mature enough for the mass market.

I cannot believe what I am reading in this thread.

  • JF's road trip is a great PR exercise for the company.
  • There is NO change to the Ford+ Transformation plan. We are still marching forward with priority on BEV's, data/software, and subcription/services for the business plan.
  • DF, JF, and BF made the correct call with the company strategy. The other OEMs will find they are late to the party.

Not defending Farley, of course he knew about the charging experience before his brake pad sales road trip. This is nothing but pageantry to mislead Wall Street and the dealers that the company’s choice now to pivot away from EVs is not because Bill, the BoD, and the C suite made a horribly miscalculated decision to invest in EVs, it’s that the world is not ready for them. Forget the fact that they ignored key customer segments for the last 4 years and seceded full percentage points of market share to competitors to chase EV rainbows and moonbeams. This is full damage control. I am shocked that he and his crony phony network have not been asked that they retire “to spend more time with their family.” Maybe the UAW strike will give “just cause” for the C suite purge. In the words of Professor Moonbeam himself “Don’t waste a crisis.”

Good grief, surely from the test track well before SOP trench level insiders knew what was likely to happen. If the leadership did not truly understand this then there are a few questions that need to be answered, understood and corrective action taken. So who knew the real issues? Were they truthfully reported up the chain? If so where did the decision to go to full rate production come from? These questions need answers.

Short story from an oldster who was at a certain proving grounds after a certain CEO who's name rhymes with fifth went for a ride with some board members to oooh and aaah at how a certain division hired some aircraft analysts and claimed they pioneered a way to cut cost and eliminate physical testing. Well, after the ride these folks had to climb out through the windows because the body made itself into a noodle and the door strikers were (all 4) jammed.

So amazingly stupid things that take millions to create and months and months to bring to fruition can happen when weak people get pressured into making miracles happen. Sigh, so it goes.

I was thinking similar thoughts right after reading the story online. This fool of a CEO gets paid millions of dollars to go on a road trip to find out what millions of ordinary people (who don't even work in the automotive industry) already know!

The best comedians in the world couldn't make this stuff up! Plus, there are dozens and dozens of other high-paid executives at Ford (one who is the chief marketing officer) - none of these high paid executives already knew what Farley found out on his road trip? I don't think they do.

Not to mention - doesn't he have hundreds of employees working for him in a organization called "sales and marketing"? He couldn't muster the leadership to delegate this "road trip" and assign some low level employee to go on a road trip for the company. Let me see....pay someone $80K per year to go on a road trip for company marketing/customer data....or pay someone $22 million per year to go on a road trip for company marketing/customer data? Seems like a simple decision to make (for even a third grader).

You would think someone in the media would call him out on this, but no they will praise him for learning so much about electric vehicle practical usage and sharing it with the rest of us. He probably, actually believes (in some warped, twisted, demented way) that he is educating us on the problems with electric vehicles.

You can't really be too surprised that he is firing all salaried people so often. He doesn't know what he is doing on any level. None - he is a complete fraud! And you are so right - the whole board of directors and the entire executive team should all be fired for this boondoggle of a "CEO EV driving experience"

At this rate - you have to wonder - who at Ford is negotiating with the UAW - Executive Vice President "Mickey Mouse"?

Ford is hemorrhaging billions of dollars by way of its electric vehicle business. This knucklehead Farley invested untold company resources into this boondoggle of an endeavor. Now he takes a road trip - in the folksy style of the old song that goes "Me and you and a dog named Boo..." - and finds he can't get sufficient charge along the way for the batteries in the F-150 he is driving. This is news to this fellow? Really? Farley and his entire executive team should be sent down the road kicking cans. Perhaps he and the rest of his id--t managers and board members can use their diplomas from Harvard Business School as toilet paper.
