Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

You guys see this news out of USAA?

They lay off people and... well, bad things happen.

Spend time with your loved ones, take your families to the park. Go fishing. Get your financial house in order so you do not get to the precipice like this guy did. The executives don't care -- the only one that cares is YOU.

Stop financing your Suburbans every 3 years. Stop buying the premium toilet paper, go to costco. Costco chicken for five bucks. Great Value tuna is just fine. That extra money? Pack it away. Get that house paid off. You don't need a six bedroom 4 bath.

Save up a monster balance sheet so that you don't get in trouble when the time comes. It is exactly what JPMorgan is doing. Monster balance sheet so they dont care about recessions.

Listen to Dave Ramsey for motivation -- maybe not the religious stuff, but the motivation and financial organization. Dont invest with his investor people though, just pick a good ETF like SP500 and something else a little lower risk.

Stop using credit cards -- they incentivize you to spend. If you insist on having them (like I do) for the points, learn to control your desires to spend. You don't need to go out to eat every day. Learn to cook at home. There's an app, its free, called Mealime. Makes cooking easy.

Just some kind advice from someone who doesn't care about you, but does care greatly about his family. And news like this does make me sad.

Check out the money guy show on YouTube. Their steps make a lot more sense for somebody that wants to build wealth and achieve financial independence.

Dave Ramsey is a crook. He took tons of money from a fake “timeshare rescue” money for years. His religious convictions can’t be very strong if he was willing to do that.

My house was paid off by the time i was 50. I drive an old car, also paid off. Some credit card debt (1 card) that I pay off month to month. I save most of my paycheck.

No kids.

I'm not selling you anything. All I'm offering is the truth, nothing more.

I also practice everything I wrote in the main post. Everything. It has freed my mind.

I have been reading alot since last January on USAA since I have insurance coverage with them for almost 35 years. Yes, significant changes have been made lately to the company with negative consequences. From a consumer's perspective, higher premiums and bad customer service. Plus, the CEO is not a veteran for a company that supports the military.

You may want to read more on the following link regarding Farmers and the layoff of 2400 employees (11 percent of workforce).

https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/local/former-farmers-insurance-employees-react-large-scale-layoffs/69-42308732-c720-46de-8c51-ed80fae65031

Farmers' employees watched CEO's scheduled video message on Monday of impending layoffs. After the video, affected employees were notified by email with a link at the bottom for severance info. In addition, access were removed for the employees as it was their last day of employment. I spoke with an employee who survived the layoff event and questioned the choices made on who was laid off. No rhyme or reason on the choices. Plus, lower management were surprised as well.

Hopefully BOA does not do the same thing to their employees with video, email, and out the door within several hours. If they did, will you be prepared?

I am not an employee of BOA but my spouse is for over 20 years. I warned that if CEO Brian Moynihan steps down, his promise of no layoffs will go with him to be followed by the horror stories of other companies. This may also include cancellation of the sabbatical leave policy. Regardless of what you do to cut costs or protest against a particular product or service, companies will continue to do business at the expense of other people. Sorry to say, but nobody cares until it is too late.

Excellent advice, OP; when I saw your post, it already had a down vote, no surprise here. You can take a donkey to water, but you can't make him drink.
