Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

2U sounds like a future Netflix series

With all these stories coming out about 2U past and present, is anyone writing a book or screenplay? Who would play Chip? Who would play John Katzman? Who would play Cathie Wood? Who would play the folks at Trilogy and edX? Who would play the author? How about the story arc? Where does the story begin? How are the layoffs presented? How does it end? What crazy and emotional things would you include to engage the audience?

I never really had any problems working there but hearing all this makes me wonder what the average experience was of those employed. Could be a good docu series though !

Post ID: @acns+1p83eOGU, that's the age old question! Makes you wonder just how dark the goings on @ here may really be? As well as the characters of some of those who have skin in the game?

The CEO used to always brag about his mentors....one famously being Adam Neumann (of 'We Works')..

A wise ( in his own eyes) guy used to say on the daily "Outcomes Matter."
From the very beginning, everything was done with such peacocking and in your face aggression: the over the top company meetings, the excessive amounts of catered food, the high end snacks and drinks on every floor, so much swag and paraphernalia you couldn't even cut down to use as rags because you already had too many in use.....

So loud! So braggadocious!!

Yet, Silence! When it comes to being transparent with prospects and students as to who we are and what exactly we do?

Imagine the outcomes of a great many lives ( lower level employees as well as the students who seemed to clearly not have a single clue as to who they were engaging with for such an important part of the process/decision making - even school's reputation ) if that particular piece of the program identity had not been withheld (which was a core requirement in keeping the job)?

Imagine the outcome!

Likely for the best, so they can't nail you for engaging in propaganda through their spyware.

Erica Gallagher Speaks Out About 2U's Shady Practices at Department of Education Virtual Listening Meeting

Hello, my name Erica Gallagher and I am a graduate of the University of Southern California’s online Masters of Social Work program. Or to put it more accurately, I am a graduate of 2U’s online Masters of Social Work diploma mill.

2U is the Online Program Management or OPM company that runs USC’s online MSW program. When I decided to attend USC, I had no idea that the online MSW program was actually run by 2U.

I didn’t know that my classes were going to be taught by instructors who were hired specifically for the OPM classes, rather than USC professors, or that they would be using outdated materials to teach me.

I didn’t know that OPM employees were the ones assigning us field placements, many of which had nothing to do with our experiences.

I didn’t know that the admissions representatives and the counselors I was emailing on a day-to-day basis were actually OPM employees, and not actual USC staff. That’s because they went to great efforts to make students believe this was fully a USC program, even arming 2U employees with USC email addresses.

If I had known, I would have never enrolled.

From the moment I looked into the program until the moment I graduated, I was lied to. I was promised a USC education that would open doors for me, and that’s not what I got. Instead, I got a shady, but equally as expensive, version of USC’s on-campus MSW program.

It’s so important for people to realize how much this OPM model hurts students. It rewards greed and profit at the expense of a quality education. It incentivizes schools to sign up as many people as they can, charging top dollar for subpar programs, while hiding their deception and profiteering behind the nonprofit brands of well-regarded schools.

The fact that they did this with a social work program — to people who were trying to build a career motivated by helping others — adds even more insult to injury.

Having this degree was supposed to change my life, but all it has done is complicate it. All I’ve gotten with this diploma is a mountain of debt and anxiety.

This is interesting. The link to the Erica Gallagher article is blocked from my 2u laptop. I’m able to open it on my phone and personal laptop. Has 2u blocked us from critical content?! Maybe a glitch but I’m gonna let the skeptic win for a minute.

In his case, I'm guessing at least a years salary for 1 person!

How much do you think it costs to dress up a house? I am legitimately curious.

@1wno+1p83eOGU, the 2U story is much bigger than its employees, though its employees are an important part of the story. Some of the stories shared here over the years have been valuable. The stories reveal a cautionary tale about a number of things, including the vulnerability of dreaming big (or bigger than what's possible). I feel sorry for those who were duped--employees and consumers and their families. I especially feel sorry for those folks who did not know what they were getting into. Some of those who were enrolled are likely to suffer through a lifetime of debt.

Agreed!
Like, I can barely sleep for wondering what Halloween theme the house will be done into this year!
Or, can the company afford all day long, endless flowing booze from the top shelf again - or only the flowing of the cheap stuff?
= sarcasm!
How you know?! Because Nobody has ever, ever cared about the Halloween get up for the house (ever!) and, enough with the booze!

I guess that's the heart of the dilemma. The insanity that this company has put so many through over time is real!
If some(one) are using irony/comedy, at times, as a small way to cope?...
It doesn't seem like the post was meant to add foulness to the already rotting stench of 2u?!

Please don’t come on to this site and trivialize employees experiences at 2U. It’s immature. It’s far from a Netflix movie! It’s reality.

Who would play the people who were played, significant and insignificant over the years? The investors, the schools (like Morehouse), the workers, the students? #collegemania
