Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is there a PIP process here?

New to the company relatively but I’m pretty sure there are people who hate me and want me to get fired.

What sort of processes do they go through here to do that?

I don’t want to work here long term anyway ( 6 months more or so at most) but I want to extend it out as much as possible

@2qtb Yup there are many Bennies at Ford who abuse their coworkers and subordinates. The PIP is a tool they use to control and humiliate the targets of their bullying.
They don’t bother with PIPs for garden variety incompetents/non-performers - those they just trade away / orchestrate a reorg that shuffles them elsewhere. Or they just do nudges that encourage people to leave on their own.

Most LLx don’t want the hassle of dealing with a PIP and just don’t give the person any work to do instead.

However some LLx are sick and twisted individuals. One LL6 despised Asians. She would create PowerPoints and then force the Asians to present and then mock them if they had troubles with pronunciations. And her word choices in the PowerPoints were intentional so that if they weren’t super careful it would sound like they were swearing. When they complained to HR she successfully convinced HR that she was helping them improve their communication skills. At our XMAS dinner she had quit a few to drink and we all heard how she really felt about everyone. It convinced me to find a new job asap.

@1jko+1pBJkBP5 i knew a guy on PIP who was actually better than some who were Not on PIP. similar to a lot of guys who were "separated" recently were good workers. PIP = they want you out now but can't do it due to legal issues. if they really wanted to coach you to get better, they would just do it. "hey... let's get you back on track, my friend." they wouldnt put you on PIP.

PIP is not about hate. Nobody wants to go through the hassle of putting you on a PIP unless you aren’t cutting it. If you are out in a PIP, you aren’t doing your job and it needs to be spelled out what is expected of you in the form of a PIP. Do well and you will be okay. Continue as is and you will leaving sooner or later.

like @1gzy+1pBJkBP5 said they are rarely used. You quite literally have to do sh-t as bad as drinking on the job + letting absolutely all of your responsibilities slide. However, if you have an LL6 or 5 that simply hates you anything is possible. Human are fickle and you'd think that if it was the latter they wouldn't have hired you in the 1st place but you never know.

From my experience the PIP process is rarely used and when it is used it’s the first step in the “firing” process. The only person I know who was put on PIP was an extreme case and really did deserve it. They hired as an experienced person with a great resume. After working for about a month they started coming in really late, taking two hour lunches and leaving early. They were missing meetings and an FCG had to help them do their work. When they were at their desk they were falling asleep. They always acted and smelled like they were drinking. They’re no longer with Ford.

If you are put on a PIP HR will be involved. Do everything that is asked of you and meet all the goals outlined in your PIP. If the goals are unreasonable point that out in the beginning as it won’t be a good defense if used as an excuse when goals are missed.

Once you hear PIP, sue whoever putting you on PIP out of the company, or send to prison if you can

Call me crazy, and maybe someone whose more familiar with the PIP process can confirm (never been on one myself) but if you have been there less than a year and you are getting put on a PIP...your management is delusional or you have egregiously offended everyone you have met or interacted with on such a level it's unbearable. I doubt it's the latter because even then putting someone on a PIP whose been there less than a year wouldn't be the tool to use in that scenario. My guess is you hired on with the intention of it being long term and are now letting your emotions guide your actions. Snap out of it. People are petty a--holes, get used to it. Stick it out for a year and move on. You start hopping multiple places in less time then that you'll like like a flake as an employee. Anyone can last 1 year somewhere.

It's hard to get put on a PIP. I wouldn't jump that hurdle just yet. People trying to get you on one so that you quit? I can totally see that happening at Ford...GM, ect. Some people are just a--holes. Honestly, if they could keep the non-a--holes and replace the a--holes that are good at their job with GPT-4 backed code bots...it would be great. The ones that don't think they can be replaced by GPT are exactly the ones that won;t see it coming when they are. Anyway...if you DO get put on a PIP...start looking for another job. That's why PIPs exist anyway - to get you to leave. Don't think for a minute they want you to succeed if they put you on one. They are just simply engaging in CYA against any employment lawyers you might direct their way.
