@kjc a keen observer might say that each had stalled at previous employer hitting their level of incompetency (peter principle), jumped into a shallower pond (Ford).
The shallower pond allows for floating back to same incompetency level, and to be able to stand on the bottom of the pond instead of frantically treading water each and every day.
@OP is spot on about software and coding @ Ford. I spent the first half of my career working @ a software company. Then wanting to slow down and be near aging parents took a job at Ford. OMG What a culture shock. The center of excellences are a joke. Antiquated software, antiquated practices, policies and practices built upon myth and voodoo passed off as gospel.
Java Center of Excellence JCOE is a total joke. My first month I found, debugged and provided them functioning fixes for hot mess after hot mess. Instead of saying Thank You they complained to my director that I was causing too much work for them by reporting and fixing a S-Ton of their code defects. After that I joined up with others to circumvent use of JCOE code, Yet another shadow IT organization born out of frustration with the COE’s incompetence.
