Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Joining Ford was a huge mistake

I took this job out of desperation at the time and now my career is spiraling down the toilet. Job market is bad and I feel stuck here

This place is where tech careers go to die; I have no respect for even 1 person who ive worked with it. Mediocre pay and mediocre unambitious lifers is the name of the game here. No one follows any coding practices or standards.

Ill have to lie hardcore on my resume to get employment anywhere else. Haven't learned one single new thing besides how to work alone and be in a silo rather than be part of a team.

If you don't want to be here, just grow a pair and quit you frickin' whining babies! Maybe that will save the job of someone who wants to work and make a positive contribution.

There are many jobs available at many other companies. All you need to do is apply online.

Corporate America will have some issues. It doesn't matters where you go. Find a good company that produce great products that people want to buy. If you want to work for automotive companies, I suggest you stay away for companies that has UAW.

If you're young, leave now! Ford will never give you/train you/teach you any skills that are marketable anywhere else but Ford!

@kjc a keen observer might say that each had stalled at previous employer hitting their level of incompetency (peter principle), jumped into a shallower pond (Ford).
The shallower pond allows for floating back to same incompetency level, and to be able to stand on the bottom of the pond instead of frantically treading water each and every day.

@OP is spot on about software and coding @ Ford. I spent the first half of my career working @ a software company. Then wanting to slow down and be near aging parents took a job at Ford. OMG What a culture shock. The center of excellences are a joke. Antiquated software, antiquated practices, policies and practices built upon myth and voodoo passed off as gospel.
Java Center of Excellence JCOE is a total joke. My first month I found, debugged and provided them functioning fixes for hot mess after hot mess. Instead of saying Thank You they complained to my director that I was causing too much work for them by reporting and fixing a S-Ton of their code defects. After that I joined up with others to circumvent use of JCOE code, Yet another shadow IT organization born out of frustration with the COE’s incompetence.

@ycq+1pdZvw6y yep, 20 years in at ford, even small tech company entry level salaries are much higher. dont stay if you want to make real money as a true software guy (e.g. not a paper pusher). they give you this line about the "cost of living difference." dont believe that even if it has a little truth to it. go for the cold hard cash. it is an HR trick.

This is just a wrong point of view in my opinion. Didn't GM just hire a bunch of people from silicone Valley when a newer executive arrived? All companies have to be tech companies and Automotive OEMS are no exception. You are not doomed. Calm yourself and get resourceful.

ford is a 120 years old automotive MANUFACTURING company. if you didn't know that, or was lied to.. then this is not the place for you if you're looking for a tech company. unless you are a technician.

lol ford is not and will never be a tech company. The developers here wouldn’t even make entry level at a start up let alone a tech giant. PM for these teams also doesn’t make you tech nor does writing regex make you a security engineer like some teams think

@kjc+1pdZvw6y if you believe they came to ford to grow their career... than you're stupid beyond help.

Speak for yourself. Many top tech talents from the best high tech companies have come to Ford to grow their careers and lead Ford to be a leader in data/software and mobility. (Doug Field, Roz Ho, I could go on and on). Thus like the previous post, maybe it is you.
