Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I'm seeing and hearing rumors of layoffs from next week to the first week in Feb.

I know there is a contingent on here that doesn't like "rumors". Apparently sticking your head in the sand is better for you than being prepared for anything.

However, I've been hearing rumors of something big brewing based on people I trust in management and that work with HR partners alike. For months!

These rumors are ugly. So rather than predict a date I'll just warn you all to have your ducks in a row. We all could be gone at any moment. So rather than stick your head in the sand, I'd encourage you to be ready! Don't over spend or buy big ticket items. Managers, get other vehicles and don't rely solely on your management leases.

The fact is this is all coming to a head soon. Larger UAW spend, continued inflation on raw materials, a softening of the vehicle market (and not just BEVs), and non-critical spending still being prioritized (can you say Train Station?) all point to these ugly rumors coming to fruition sooner rather than later.

And these rumors are UGLY! I'm talking big numbers. As in your chance of being laid off is higher than than your chance of being spared.

And for those that think you are irreplaceable, do you really think that management hasn't been working to outsource your position to a low cost country or to a vendor?

No one, repeat, no one is safe. Except maybe if you are a member of the Ford family.

I figure it this way. In the last round of firings they sc--wed up by not following their well-defined performance review process opening themselves up to legal actions by those who did not accept the severance package. I mean, Ford has this complicated process for documenting the performance of employees, but when time came for the separations, that was not considered. So a good lawyer will ask, why? What OTHER reasons were there?

This time they are going to make sure that all those that get canned also have a poor performance review on record.

That will take time. A few weeks, probably.

I'm assuming your comment was written by the Ministry of Truth. First off, the "very best leadership team in the mobility business" is going to be a subjective answer. Bill Ford making that statement is him giving his opinion, not fact. And of course Bill Ford is going to say that. He assembled the team.

Secondly, I like how to say that "even Ford Blue" has it's place. It's a very dismissive way to talk about the major money making arm of the company. Does Model e even have a plan for profitability this decade? Doug Field said to expect Model e to be in the black by gen 3 products. That's basically 2030

Odds of week of 1/22 are very low. It's Global Leadership Meetings in Dearborn. LL3+ will be in meetings for 3 days straight. They won't be pulling off any mass layoffs while they are getting treated like royalty at FXC.

Why would upper management or the BOD want to reduce the top leadership of the company? Right now in 2024 we have the very best leadership team in the mobility business. Bill Ford has stated this fact before.

Ford also has the company structure to deliver for the needs of the transforming transportation and mobility landscape. Primarily Model E, but also Ford Pro, and even Ford Blue have their place. You may have the right to disagree, but that does not make it correct.

Ford is so top heavy....!! Will it ever change?

It's crazy how Ford Motor company removes supervisors, LL6, LL5 thinking they are down sizing upper ranks soon after promoting supervisors, LL6, LL5 replacements.

Some layoffs in Germany are already expected, given they have a 3 year transition plan there.

No source on layoffs. But why else do last minute change to forced ranking without clear expectations if they were not planning on doing layoffs??? No way you can have a workforce where 30% is rated below track if you weren’t planning on moderate layoffs. Rank and yank.

Please cite your sources. Even rumors have sources, unless you made it up yourself.

So what are those big ugly numbers?

If we’re going down the rumor rabbit hole, might as well go head first.

If you are hearing rumors from company insiders, seeing unusual behavior of management, security, IT or others, then that IS the sort of stuff I want to know about. Or even if you find news from some outside source and put it together with something happening inside the company, I think that’s ok too.

This IS a place for rumors. Many are not true. But I’m f there’s good reasoning behind the info, then I want to hear it.

There is too much “happy Farley” in the media.
That happened just before the last big round.
Here he is racing! Now he’s talking to some singer! Now he’s racing an electric van!

Some bad news is coming.

Ford needs to layoff 15% of salary workforce. There are many idling plants with minimal or no production. If you can't sell the products, then you need to get rid of the product and the resource a long with it. Consolidate and focus on good quality exciting products. Stop making the same ugly poor quality products that people don't want to buy.

I have a devious, but legit strategy for Bill, Farley, and their HR team. Hear me out. For 2023 PR's, just give all gsr's a below target/low performer rating and then you will have official grounds to fire everybody and replace with LCC employees.
