Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I don't understand being on video on every meeting

Let me preface this by saying being on video for a staff meeting or a quarterly exec review is perfectly fine, but not 4-8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

It's one thing to be in a room, but it's weird to be looking at virtual heads all day long. How does seeing their mouth move enhance the meeting or make me more productive? Someone told me it's so they know you're paying attention... like, am I in high school?

I think the cool 'kids' like it because it makes them feel important or part of the 'in crowd'.

I don't want to see my spouse this much!!

Work from home is the best. Where else can you do laundry at work? Where else can you watch your shows, eat, smoke, drink chat/text with your friends all while you put your job quietly on hold without being noticed?

Is it professional to hear dogs barking in the background? maybe not. Kids fighting or crying in the background yeah maybe not. TV or radio blasting in the background, well maybe not. But it's not like we are a multi-billion dollar Communications Company on the World stage with shareholder investors.

Amazon, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Google, IBM, Disney, Apple, and 90% of the top companies in America have returned to office....But their stock is not performing as great as ours, right?

Work from home is the best. My lawn is amazing. My pool is clean af during the summer. Stress free after 3pm when I take the show on the road to my patio have a few beers while I take a dip on a conf call. Sorry su-kers but this ride is here to stay.

The point is, for some, it's less productive. Then, I hear how people have to do their actual work after hours to catch up. Someone made a comment about program managers wanting to see people listen to their monotone voices, which is spot on. I'll just go into the office and take my 15 coffee breaks.

When work from home started EVERYBODY wanted to stay home.....Why, because it was less work with more fooling around....you know it and they know it too.

Things had to change....It needed to change.

Verizon is a top Fortune 500 company....It needs to behave like one.

You're well paid with benefits..if you're not happy with what Verizon needs from you each day....the door is not locked. ....( in this case your bedroom door )

What do you think the program name "Slack" is all about? It is to catch 'slackers' and keeps track of your movements. Put a bandaid over the lens.

Without you being on video the program lead cannot be assured that you are paying attention apparently.

No need for that. Just take a picture with your computer of you sitting in your seat, Then use it as the virtual background and cover up the camera.

if you don't have to talk a lot (or at all) just get a cardboard cut out of yourself and put it in the chair
Then do what you wanna do

What is fun is when I look at them on my screen it looks like I’m not looking at them. If I look at the camera so it appears I’m looking at them I can’t see them. Bluejeans, meets, webex are all a little different too.

It was so much better when we just used screen sharing and conference calls. Most meetings have a presentation anyways so I can’t see the tiny heads when I’m looking at the preso anyways.

Was in leadership. Can confirm it’s to watch you work solely on what they want you doing. The AI being implemented will allow them to track it all. The art and joy of what was once a satisfying employment contract has now turned into slave labor. While under the regime of Bleeding Out Red, productivity is all that matters. From the outside it feels out of body to work for any other corp at this point.
