Why in the name of loving god does ExxonMobil management think that its in the best interest of this company to bring in BTC engineer/supervisors to Houston campus and Imperial Oil (Calgary,Sarnia, Kearl etc etc ) for lengthy 2-3 year assignments ?
There is absolutely nothing to gain by bringing them here for temp assignments, i mean ofcourse i understand that we do this so that we can better "integrate" them into our company vision and values and hence when they return they are better suited to be proponents of our core XOM values at BTC. But still this seems excessive, like flying them business class all they way from India and paying for their relocation/home search and not to mention the uplift they get as an expat......like WHYYY do we do this to ourselves.
Now i know a lot of trolls are going to say a lot of hateful things in the responses and claim that XOM is training away our jobs to BTC.....look i get it. But WHY is my question......Darren Woods is a lifer at XOM and so is Jack and Neil, do they not feel any bond to their fellow western XOM employees.......do they not remember their journey with this company and how much we used to love this company back in the 70s 80s. Or are they severely pushed into making these "cost-cutting" measures by the board of directors ?? My personal take is that NOBODY...and i mean NOBODY, not even the shareholders, has the better interest of the company in mind than the employees themselves since employees literally depend on the company for survival..... and as a result the more lifers we have in the BOD the better the decisions in terms of longevity. I cannot imagine a 40 year veteran of the company (whos' entire working life including his kids education, his wifes engagement ring etc etc was all paid for by the company) willingly making decisions to line his/her wallets at the expense of the company's long term viability....whereas right now we see a bunch of random baffooons from corporate america in the XOM BOD who have no interest in seeing this company thrive 50 years from now.....they just want to book their profits every quarter.....
Su-ks but this is ki-ling the company and i cannot do anything. I started working here in the 80s and will be retiring this year once i have elected my replacement......and when i look back at my time here i can confidently say that on my part atleast i have never cheated the company.....i always did in my 40 years of service whats best for XOM.....but i will die knowing that i wasnt able to correct the system so that the next generation of XOMers can reap the same benefits as me. Best of luck in the future and work hard no matter what happens u folks..........................signing out
