Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

EXPATS FROM BTC TO XOM AND IMPERIAL OIL

Why in the name of loving god does ExxonMobil management think that its in the best interest of this company to bring in BTC engineer/supervisors to Houston campus and Imperial Oil (Calgary,Sarnia, Kearl etc etc ) for lengthy 2-3 year assignments ?

There is absolutely nothing to gain by bringing them here for temp assignments, i mean ofcourse i understand that we do this so that we can better "integrate" them into our company vision and values and hence when they return they are better suited to be proponents of our core XOM values at BTC. But still this seems excessive, like flying them business class all they way from India and paying for their relocation/home search and not to mention the uplift they get as an expat......like WHYYY do we do this to ourselves.

Now i know a lot of trolls are going to say a lot of hateful things in the responses and claim that XOM is training away our jobs to BTC.....look i get it. But WHY is my question......Darren Woods is a lifer at XOM and so is Jack and Neil, do they not feel any bond to their fellow western XOM employees.......do they not remember their journey with this company and how much we used to love this company back in the 70s 80s. Or are they severely pushed into making these "cost-cutting" measures by the board of directors ?? My personal take is that NOBODY...and i mean NOBODY, not even the shareholders, has the better interest of the company in mind than the employees themselves since employees literally depend on the company for survival..... and as a result the more lifers we have in the BOD the better the decisions in terms of longevity. I cannot imagine a 40 year veteran of the company (whos' entire working life including his kids education, his wifes engagement ring etc etc was all paid for by the company) willingly making decisions to line his/her wallets at the expense of the company's long term viability....whereas right now we see a bunch of random baffooons from corporate america in the XOM BOD who have no interest in seeing this company thrive 50 years from now.....they just want to book their profits every quarter.....

Su-ks but this is ki-ling the company and i cannot do anything. I started working here in the 80s and will be retiring this year once i have elected my replacement......and when i look back at my time here i can confidently say that on my part atleast i have never cheated the company.....i always did in my 40 years of service whats best for XOM.....but i will die knowing that i wasnt able to correct the system so that the next generation of XOMers can reap the same benefits as me. Best of luck in the future and work hard no matter what happens u folks..........................signing out

Despite poor performance, BTC will not all be PIPd.

Ranking is more political than performance based.

Ranking is the only activity in EM where lying, manipulation, misrepresenting, and falsifying the results is the norm.

If ranking were truly based on performance, the all PIPs would be BTC.

I have not encountered a fully competent BTC employee either remotely or impatted into USA.

The incompetence is swept under the rug and all of us US employees are made to fix the blunders made by BTC.

Every BTC person that I have worked with remotely and in person impatted into USA has performed inadequately.

Some are absolutely useless.

There must be a different expectation for performance because they cost less.

Having any BTC person rank above 50 is outright fraud.

Exxonmobil is sc--wing American employees and really just needs to gtfo of America! The love China, go! Ask Musk how China is treating him! BTC continually cranks out cr-p or work products that were done decades ago by competitors. India will end up being trouble too, as it is already evolving. Read!! F India!

Those that complain about jobs getting offshored are the ones who go to the stores in their country and find that almost nothing is manufactured locally but they gleefully gobble it all up because it is cheap. Hypocrites!

@2wve It’s always been on the dark side. You only notice it now because you’re not benefiting from it anymore, which is what most of you nearing retirement age (especially the white guys) seem to be upset about.

To OP, when you were making bank and watching people all over the world get screwed over by American corporations for profit did you think about those people's welfare? How did you think capitalism works? Let me put the equation for you. Profit equals revenue minus cost. You are higher cost than BTC, KLTC, and China. Follow? Every company is developing these "remote centers of excellence" which amounts to assets that can enable offshoring of white collar jobs. Essentially opening up the pool of available labor, forcing US employees to compete with the rest of the world. This will not stop. No, you and the other conservatives aren't going to do sh-t about it. Yes, your politicians, bosses, and the wealthy people you worship couldn't care less about you and want this to happen. Want to know why they couldn't care less about you? Go look at their bank account. I have no hate for BYC, KLTC, or China. They're not the ones that "stole" the jobs. Republican white guys gleefully sent them over there. They're not worse quality than Western employees, they don't have access to the networking/internship infrastructure that exists in the US to develop fresh grads. Yes, they will be given all the jobs because they cost less than 30K per year.

@1idz It is 100% about race.

Almost everyone complaining is white. The people you’re complaining about aren’t. When people who are white do the same thing, the white people who are complaining complain less, or don’t complain at all.

That’s all aside from the blatantly racist invective directed towards other human beings who are simply doing as they’re told by corporate leadership. If you don’t like it, go complain to the old white guys making all the major decisions. Or move to Finland. Or retire. IDGAF.

It’s geopolitical. Agreements between governments, special interests, etc. blame your governments

@1yst It's not about race. The very capable IIT grads wouldn't even consider working for EM at the horrible pay rates. Many of them leave India and permanently live and work in the US, UK, etc. EM has a trash reputation globally, for good reason. You accuse others of racism, but your ignorance is clear. Keep complaining about nepotism like anyone even cares.

@1dcg For people like you not white = less qualified.

It’s not like all the white guys at Exxon represent the cream of the crop either. Most are nepo-kids or people with some personal connections. Many lack basic qualifications for their assigned role. Your whining about this is just you being a bigot.

Go to Norway or Sweden where everyone is white if you don’t like it.

Anyone who thinks BTC are comparable to experienced UK/CAD/AUS/etc have no clue what they're talking about. No one in BTC is qualified to do anything, they're all coming from 4th tier schools, as we only hire new grads who have been turned down everywhere else. Anyone who develops at all leaves as soon as they can, taking their experience with them. What a complete waste of time for everyone involved.

Looks like we got the sore nationalist loser off his couch again. Look bud - it’s called capitalism. You didn’t realize it when we had Brits, Australians and Canadians coming and telling you how to do stuff and became your advisor or manager. Likely because they looked your skin color and had an accent drooled upon. Same thing, except these folks are different color.
I hear your sentiment and I worry about my job and my kids too. But as long as someone can do job cheaper and there are no government rules prohibiting it, it will keep happening.
Irony is that biggest complainers are numb nuts from North, the Canadians, who have been mooching on the Exxon gravy train - sending their id--ts down south and abroad but now getting taste of their medicine when we found their replacements. Watch this space because the BTC folks will get replaced by wherever we find next cheaper place -

I’ve seen the numbers and yes the BTC expats are expensive. It has to do with how India does taxes even if you are working overseas.

The goal is to break your spirit. If you have no connection to your colleagues, you won't work together to demand changes. Sounds like it's working.

Guarantee there would be no issue for most of you if the people they were bringing in were white and European.

Sure, they’d still be taking your jobs, but you wouldn’t be anywhere near as upset about it.

No, Woods is not an experienced hire. He went straight from undergrad to MBA to Exxon.

FYI woods is an experienced hire made is 1992. So I wouldn't call him a 70s and 80s lifer.

$50 says the OP doesn’t even work at EM.

Skimmed his wall of text. All dated/generic info. Likely another RE who caught a PIP and can’t let the place go. Pathetic.

Absolutely correct. Permian is flooded with young BTC expats who actually cost more than USA new hires. How do we justify visas for these folks!

It’s the fastest and cheapest way to replace all US and Canada employees. An expat BTC employee is equivalent cost to a US employee, and far cheaper everywhere else.

The more that we train and send, the faster we can assess out the US and Canadian workforce. We already stopped hiring there years ago, so we just need to force out the older employees!
