Thread regarding Ford layoffs

3x per week Badge Swipes

Apparently management is counting weekly badge swipes.
I have no problem with RTO, but if I am testing a vehicle or otherwise there is no way I will just stop at a building to swipe my badge.
This is elementary school baloney and an insult to professional working adults.

Like you shop rats have any idea what it's like being a college educated white collar worker!

And keep supporting your 'president' and watch what happens if he manages to win (more like steals a win) - he will end your precious UAW!

They should make you white collar clock watchers come in and take attendance. Like school children.

At the plant, if one of us doesn't show up - it gets NOTICED!

I wouldn't be surprised if half of you white collar clock watchers are running this badging scam! No wonder engineering and quality are failing!

This scam does work. Just as we started to move from quarantine to coming back into the office, my entire team started doing this multi-badge scan scam.

There were eight of us total. One would go in one week with all eight badges and scan everyone in. We would pass along badges on the weekend.

Each of us only had to go into the office one week every other month. It was awesome!

We were alll let go during the SIRP, but it was great while it lasted.

Keep doing your scam boys, I personaly confirm that it does work.

You're on the right track but the order along with the time of who badges in on a given day should vary along with the entrance door should appear random with within reason

I have worked at Ford for over 10 years. I know exactly what I am talking about.

And to the guy with the 'plan' to game the badging system - you'd be committing one of the biggest access rule violations at Ford - badging in as someone else. That's not only a termination, but likely legal action. Not worth the risk. Not that I believe a word of what you are saying anyway.

Get back to work, Edgelords...

@3aoz+1rCu37CC so easy! Hey there at 8am, badge in with my badge.

8:25 go out to car, come back and badge in as friend. Easy peezy!

@3aoz, you don’t work at Ford. A vast majority of people don’t have their camera on in meetings, in PD, our desktops don’t even have them and we have no interest in adding one.

No you don't. I don't believe that you have a friend who is in cahoots with you on a hair brained scheme like you described.

Our software will flag this activity anyway. I am a software architect in IT and know this for a fact. Always the same buildings always at nearly identical times. Or you have to make one of you 'late' to try to avoid being noticed - and late isn't good either.

Plus, the risk isn't worth the reward. Any video conference on a week that you're on the lamb, and it will be clear that you are not in a Ford building (even with a background or blur) - or that you refuse to turn your camera on. It's lose-lose, man.

Fortunately I live near another coworker and we are using the following plan to minimize the days in the office while still registering badge swipes: We basically alternate weeks where this week I gave her my badge and she goes in Tue, Wed, Thur and swipes both badges (while I'm home). Next week, I'll take her badge in for swiping and she will be home. We also may end up alternating days vs weeks depending what's going on. We are in different departments so it makes it easier.

Badge multiple time a day. Minimum 7 times. Overwhelm them with badge ins! And quiet quit. It is the way.

You all need to quit crying and work harder.

The R politicians just proposed that retirement age be extended. So you better get comfortable working a lot longer - while they retire to their millionaire lifestyles.

@1ohe+1rCu37CC - What has always annoyed me is that I've had to give out my personal cell phone number to vendors as I don't get a Company phone. My niece's employer pays her $20 a month for her to use her cell phone number to be on call. I know that $20 a month is not a whole lot and that some people would rather just use one phone, but it's always bothered me.

They can't use MY wifi. If they wouldn't let me come to the office during quarantine, then they have to PAY for my work-related internet usage!

They have to be very careful if they're going to monitor badge swipes because the contract with the UAW prohibits the use of badge swipes to monitor hourly employees. It's impossible to monitor salaried employee badge swipes without technically monitoring all badge swipes.

The cost of high speed Internet is nothing compared to the cost of a vehicle commuting 2 hours a day. Fuel, mantince and increased collision risks.

Remember, this RTO push is a political issue. Woke Ford has to demonstrate that they are on the “team”.
Commercial real estate (CRE) is about to collapse and take a bunch of regional banks with it. This is a desperate (and futile) attempt to head off a trend that began long before the COVID WFH days.

Seems to me that the appropriate way to handle information workers is for management to set goals for completing tasks and make sure those tasks get done well and on time. A really good manager doesn’t care how.

The irony is that people who don’t come in 3 days a week will be punished, even though you’d then be working the same way as one of the many remote workers.

That was one minor thing that annoyed me when we first started WFH during quarantine... We were expected to use our own wifi and bandwidth and impact our data limits.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed working from home. I had an hour+ commute each way that I was happy to end.

It is less and less common these days, but what if an employee didn't have home internet? Or they have entry level (i.e. low cost) internet access that didnt support video conferencing or the exchange of large files?

Would the company have offered solutions for those employees? Perhaps a mobile access point?

I always wondered what they would have told me if I had asked them that. I was in a different spot financially back then and had the bare bones internet connection in my apartment. My wireless connection couldn't handle video conferencing and even hardwired connection seemed to struggle. I would minimize the 'camera on' time, but the powers thar be started to get annoyed and told me I 'must' turn my camera on to enhance the collaboration haha...

The max living distance would be a good question for HR.

But keep in mind that you would have had to have been hired as a 'remote' employee for it to really mean anything. (Not that it would save you in a layoff situation).

Otherwise, if you were an office worker pre-quarantine, and then moved during remote work, I hope you requested and received approval before relocating - and have it in writing. I knew a few people that moved to other states after it became clear that work from home was going to be here a while. They all asked for approval in writing and received approval in writing. They're all still here - working in AZ/CO/IL.

Coffee badging eventually turns into monitoring your VPN and wifi connection (in office and at home). Please don't ask me how I know. Good luck out there.

The badge swipes DO matter because they want people ti return to OFFICE.

I've been logging in daily from my home since quarantine. But that won't matter now that they want my team IN OFFICE three days a week...

The badge swipes do not matter, since they can tell when and where you log in to the system. Common sense says they can also monitor individual people entering buildings because that is the whole point for surcuity. During the early COVID days my LL called me and asked me why I was going into the office when everyone one was gone. I was going in since, I lived near by and didn't have a home work area set up yet. So, yes they do watch.

Yes, it does track the time you swipe in and swipe out (if applicable in your building).

It literally tracks, who, where, and when.

So consider that they'll be able to see how long someone goes to lunch if they leave the building and come back.

Does it also keep track of the time you swipe in? I'm not going to stress myself trying to fight traffic.

You are naive if you think they aren’t monitoring badge swipes. I doubt they are looking very closely at every employee. But they do have algorithms set up to flag people not coming in enough. And they will look at your swipes closely if they want to get rid of you (e.g. you have a pension and 20+ years).

Lack of trust is a common theme with our executives.

@itwt is correct. Rewatch the most recent PD Ops town hall if you don't believe it. In fact, Baumbick said they are counting clicks to study the ebb and fall of people in the building for Office space planning. He said they can't decipher whose badge swipes in, just that there is a swipe.

Post ID: @1zqx+1rCu37CC

:@1twt+1rCu37CC where a lot of the badge swip monitoring got started is because of execs like Purchasing's Liz Dorr that told her entire org in their Town Hall that you must badge in 3x a week or else, AND that they are monitoring and offenders will face discipline. So if this is a lie per John Lawler, Jim Farley might want to call Lizzy Borden Dorr in for a chat.

Post ID: @1mkk+1rCu37CC

It was stated very clearly by Jim Baumbick in a RTO Q&A a week and a half ago that they are NOT monitoring badge swipes, and the intent is not to force everyone back into an office for the sole purpose of a bed check. I don't know where all this nonsense is coming from, but it's not coming from anyone that's paying attention to the facts or perhaps that even works at Ford.

So they'll lay off all the calibrators & test engineers because they didn't swipe badges enough? Brilliant (NOT!).

They'll be using compliance as a factor when they decide who to fire. They need something tracable as justification.

If you get a pension, make sure you're badging in as required.
