Professionals don’t like being policed or micromanaged, so they’re going to push back and find ways to game the system. A lot of these people don’t need to be in the office to do their jobs and view it as a d-mb requirement. If you’re doing something out of fear - you’re likely to try and get out of it if you think you can.
All micromanaging does is hurt morale and motivate people to work less while still meeting arbitrary minimum requirements. They aren’t happy, so they never go the extra mile.
Creatives and developers don’t work well like this, and will put in less effort and work, and will try to bypass silly arbitrary rules that make no sense. They will just do the bare minimum until they can find another job and leave the company.
This isn’t going to turn out well, and it’s going to promote many to just leave. People making $200k+ a year don’t want some non-technical manager with some basket weaving degree dressing them down over having 5 hours in the office instead of the required 5.34573727 hour the arbitrary system says they need to be in daily.
If they’re getting their work done and showing results, none of this other bs should matter.
