It's been a few months since my role was made redundant, so I'm over the shock, and most of the anger. Most importantly I'm moving on, so I wanted to share a few lessons I've learned that may help some of my ex-coleagues on here who are stuggling.
- It's not about you - This may be an ageist numbers game / culture war, but it was never about you personally, so take a breath and move on knowing that you are still the awesome person you always were.
- Team up! - A bunch of us in London formed a post-redundancy support group, where we kepp each other sane, share experiences, advice, etc. This is the one most valuable thing I've done post redundancy. Don't do this solo, reach out to others you you and form a suport group. We meet weekly via Teams / GoogleMeet.
- 2 page CV - Yes, even with your experience, you can have a two page CV. Each role should be 3 bullets of key achievements with a list of key skills used. It's an advert to get you an interview, not a job, so the purpose is to intriege.
- LinkedIn Premium, feh! - There is an industry preying on the out fo work and scared. People selling magic AI CV reviews, secret lists of "headhunters", etc. LinkedIn Premium is a little useful, but way overpriced. You don't need it, but get it if you can afford it.
Just trying to add a little positivity in here to help any of you who got cut. It's a long slog to get another role, but we can do it.
