Prepping for LR, managers “managing” out employees saving LR severance

New tactics is managing employees out with toxic atmosphere, bad reviews, forcing to quit on their own, directing to HR who provides smaller package to quit, put on PIP and out, finally the LR. Seems LR is still a better safe choice compared to other nasty tactics to lower headcount. Really a sad story. Don’t let worthless managers use employees as pawn. Document toxic atmosphere, your work progress, and file complaint with Employee relations.

It’s time for headcount reduction for managers and directors. Can they be on PIP when they do no direct customer facing work?

I am SO GLAD I got laid off last year when packages were still phat. They’re only going to get smaller and more toxic. I’m sorry for the anxiety and worry this is causing anyone. It’s not right. You’re better than how they’re treating you.

You have to love toxic work environments. Managers that don't know how to manage, treat others like garbage, scapegoat others all in a means to impress their manager so they don't get an LR. Best thing to do is look for employment elsewhere immediately. Do as little as you possibly can. When you get an offer in writing, quit on the spot. No 2-week notice or anything, just quit and walk out.

The need to look at all these useless managers

  • what do they do?
  • what do the contribute?
  • what is their plan?

There is so much deadwood and bloated middle management that does not contribute anything

Our competitors actually point this out now it is a joke

You mean managers are actually acting like managers? Oh, the horror! Managing performance is (or should be) part of their job. For so long most managers have just let it slide, save that person for the LR in case they are asked to make a 'contribution' to the cutback. Almost a given that there will be some folks that have a disconnect with their manager and aren't getting a fair shake. Yes, it stinks. Have had that happen, sometimes you look for job sometimes your manager is out before they get to take it further. I think there are a lot of folks who should have made a move long ago that just coast and wait for the LR package.

Return to Office mandates are basically free layoffs for most employees. The push for RTO is a bet that enough people will quit to save the big Cisco pocketbook.

Should have been managing out for years. When you have people making $130K + a year, incompetent, but having that dei protection you get what you get. Discrimination for the sake of diversity and zero customer value. This is liberalism and it doesn't work in business mid and long term. Of course the ELT gives no cares because there's no repercussions for them other than a golden parachute and millions in salary. It's a shame how far the place has fallen.

Remember that people remember. If you are a manager, keep your cool and NEVER embarrass anyone being laid off.
When you get some time, read up on the extra mansion mur-d-errs. That was employee/employer too.

I would welcome redundancy immediately, Does anyone have any tips on how best to get it or go ab out it? Part of AppD. Doubt we will have jobs soon anyway.

Like everything underhanded and despicable, this was piloted at least 2 years ago in the UKI org courtesy of an authoritarian SE management . I was the victim of it based on pure suspicion and no proof. Another guy I know was a high performer who the manager could not put on PIP due to his high visibility but made sure she pushed him out for no fault of his own. Welcome to new Cisco where cannibalism is not only legal but practiced and protected by a weak , corrupt Management.

I can confirm the tactic. I am in the same boat having been in the company 20 years. What is the advise : ER, Lawyer? Clearly looking for a job however a dignified exit maximising severance is something to consider?

File a complaint with Employee Relations? They are there for one reason, and one reason alone - to protect management.

Who cares? Anyone who leaves Cisco ends up better off. Why are you worried about it?

There is a mandate to use regular employees as contractors and when not needed for projects, or any project issues, to put them through bad review, HR performance complaint, and PIP. If all fails, the dreaded LR.
