Laziness has nothing to do with age or union vs non union its all about how you were raised and your work ethic. In every large corporation there a large percentage of people that aren't that bright and or determined to do as little work as possible while the small percentage of workers that are smart and or believe in doing a days work for a days pay hold things together so the business can still thrive. So it really boils down to how many of the wrong people the company will blindly get rid of. And as far as the union goes, I have never thought about or met someone who based there plan to be a decent worker or not on that. You are either built that way or not and all the brain washing Quality, Bell Atlantic way training of the past won't change who a person is inside. If you work here and collect a paycheck then you should feel obligated to do your best because the better the company does in keeping up with technology and securing and keeping customers the better the chance that the company will keep more people employed. It's a great job with good benefits and I know many employees with only a high school diploma that have a very comfortable life from working here. So complain all you want but try and find the that perfect job you think exists somewhere or you can count your blessings and be thankful for what you have that many other people would love to have. I read the posts and I couldn’t believe my eyes. Are the employees so stupid and so naive to blame each other, wireline vs wireless, old vs young?

This has nothing to do with working from home or performance or employee's age.

It is all bad about bad management decisions on top levels and nothing more. Losing the bid for new spectrum to maintain network supremacy. Making billions of dollars of bad investments and writing them off with zero value. There is no real insight into innovation, which is the strength of American companies. Keeping their expenses untouched with their private jets and super bonuses for doing a sh*t job.

VSP, RTO, RIF are all just to make up for their mistakes. How do we recover? We evaluate every single job, if that can be done offshore, by contractors, or by rebadging employees to those Indian consultancy companies for a few bucks less or not. If yes, it does not matter your performance, your years at the company, your age, YOU WILL BE GONE.

So please reconsider your loyalties. They should not be to Verizon management, they should be to yourself, your family, your colleagues who do their best everyday to push this company forward.

I'm 61, and have 43 years.. missed my chance to retire due to bad financial advisor advice. Now I work until the end of the contract and maybe well into the next.

The biggest drawback to the union are the employees hired in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. They lowered the standards to satisfy some government mandate and hired any id--t that applied.

Even with a 6&6 I doubt anyone will leave unless interest rates hit zero. They already lost at least half their pension. Thought they could skate a few more years. Didn't quite work out for them. Management will take the VSP and ride off into the sunset as happy as can be. Union will still be humping pole waiting for the pension to rise again.

Verizon appears to be attempting to do what our political parties are doing to the masses—pitting classes of people against each other. Trust me, laziness is not attributable to age. There are hard working older employees, and there are lazy young employees. There are also a lot of good and bad contractors and a lot of good and bad non-citizens. This happens in every company. What doesn’t happen in good companies is bad management.

I’m 60 plus and have been with Verizon since 2004. I technically support a $40 million annual spend along with dozens of key strategic customers. Although I’m a relic as you say, any day I will compare my technical chops, physical strength, aptitude, technical skills, marketability, income and my bank account against your lazy, whiney a-s. The Layoff is mostly comprised of entitled babies who think Verizon owes them something. But most of you are too self absorbed to work for something and instead believe you are owed it. Verizon gave me an opportunity to prove myself and I did. But you social media instigators will su-k here and at every other company you work at because nothing will be good enough. Here is a suggestion, you’re so talented and know everything, go start a company to complete against Verizon. Go run your own show and you can undo every wrong that you perceive here. But none of you will. Instead with your GED’s you will do little at work, write stupid posts on a stupid medium and achieve little in life. Grow up and if you hate it here go leave and write your own story someplace else.
