Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Job Applications Getting Auto-Rejected

Hello All.

I am aware that this forum and message board is for people to vent about the current layoffs at BNY Mellon, but I was hoping to get some pointers or advice. In 2019 and in 2024, I have applied a total of 3 times to the same AML, KYC, & Prevention role. However, after editing my CV and making sure it fits with the job description, I always get the auto email from HR, they decided not to go through with my application.

For context, I have a background mostly in KYC and AFC/AML in areas like screening, transaction monitoring, and doing risk assessment for business during the last 7 years at the same place. Is there something I need to add to my CV to make it more ATS friendly? Or does my background in general make me too overqualified for the role?

I saw some listings only wanted a few years of experience with a High School Diploma/GED. I have a bachelors degree along with experience.

Again, I understand this is a place for people to vent, but if someone could provide any advice, I’d welcome that too.

Thank you.

Consider yourself lucky that they haven't hired you and I leave it at that!

Hi everyone.

It’s the original poster here. Thank you for all of the advice. Unfortunately, I don’t know anyone internal at BNY Mellon and everyone is probably right. With my background, I’m probably way too overqualified just for an Associate Level Role, even though I probably can do the job.

Reading your replies has convinced me to no longer apply to any positions at BNY Mellon. My application rejects are definitely a blessing in disguise. Where I’m working at right now, it’s no better unfortunately. It seems like so many banks globally are just trying offshore a lot of US based jobs to India to “save money”.

Offshoring isn’t anything new, but I feel like it’s been getting worse for the last 2 years or so. To be frank, I just feel like offshoring will cause many problems than solutions for any bank right now.

Anyways, thank you again everybody. Good luck to you all and I hope you find roles/companies that not only pays well, but treats you well too. Take care!

Count your blessings! I applied for a job at BNY just to sharpen my interviewing skills. The HR recruiter who holds a VP title was a complete mo--n and made careless mistakes (video off for the phone screen, mandating I fill out a form that was totally irrelevant to me, and best yet, scheduling an interview on a holiday, only to have to reschedule). The scheduling of the multiple interviews took way too long even though I was assured "they want to move quickly". Communication did not exist as to the delays in between the interviews. This is not how you impress people to join your company. Turns out, me and my many years work experience cost too much, so a cheap internal got the position. Hope they're having fun! What a circus.

If you're older take the dates off of your education and only go back ten years with experience.

Be thankful and keep looking. It’s a toxic atmosphere and quite honestly, a total sh$t show.

I agree with all the other comments. This place used to be a decent place to work now its awful. Constant offshoring positions and the absolute worst sr leaders and employees. If you value your sanity, apply elsewhere. Most of us are just buying our time

As a KYC manager, I would like to thank you for confirming that HR only sends us the terrible candidates.

We desperately need people like you but I would absolutely advise you to avoid BNY. As others have mentioned they are only looking for young & impressionable kids to mold into the future yes men.

I would consider myself a very good source when it comes to this. RUN. Don’t walk, RUN away. I have never been part of a more incompetent “team” ever. The leadership is a disaster and it trickles down. You’ll be miserable and will constantly fear for your job as they give Pune dingbats more and more power.

The best avenue to take is to apply directly to the kyc hiring manager. Bypass the HR process automated process. Like was said earlier, its geared to hiring fresh college graduates . HR rarely provides what the hiring manger actually needs. He/she may really want your experience. If you know anyone in the bank, ask them to help get you to the hiring manager. Good luck.

We told you so. Look elsewhere.

@Anon 2

The only reason why I would apply is because one of the offices would give me the opportunity to move closer to home. That’s it. I believe I can handle the RTO and other stuff cause it’s not my first banking job and I’ve dealt with a lot of silly things to put it politely.

You should not apply here.

But to answer the question, BNY is currently focused on prioritizing early career talent (aka cheap labor). My assumption is that you probably appear too expensive or too knowledgeable to manipulate.

@Anon 1

That’s what I initially thought. I’ve been perusing this message board for months now. Seeing what guys go through isn’t nice at all.

Original poster,
Question for you, with your credentials and background, why do you want to come to this po-p house?

Take it as a sign, don't do it.
