Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Benefits I would like to see as a union member.

In no particular order.

  1. A decent raise, similar to what other unions are getting.
  1. Actual profit sharing like the UAW gets. $10,000 plus.
  1. Better healthcare choices.
  1. The same vacation time that all other employees get. 5 weeks after 2 years, 6 weeks after 25.
  1. More personal days.
  1. Push to remove copper completely and bring fiber to every household in the footprint.
  1. A significant raise to the pension to make up for lost years.
  1. Have a process to get rid of dead weight and hire more capable workers.

You’re lucky you have a job. Copper is dead. The only people with copper are old people. Once they die off, you’ll no longer be needed, then you can find your high paying job with great benefits. Good luck.

@9blo, your splitting hairs. You know darn well what was being said, but chose to go off on some peculiar non sequitur.

"btw, that "...nobody gets health care for free these days." is not only incorrect, it could just as easily be flipped to "...why aren't others getting health care for free these days?"."

Because "FREE" healthcare these days is actually a $25,000-$40,000 perk for 1+.
The days of $8-12k, for 1+ plans died when Obamacare came into existence.
You may not pay it, but someone does, be it the Company or the Gov.

Management retires now have to rely on fully funding 401K & IRA's themselves for a retirement, & have to take it right up the _$$ for healthcare, unless they already had 30yrs when everything was frozen back in 2006. VZ Union guys take their healthcare for granted, and don't seem to realize just how valuable that part of their retirement package actually is now...

@p-o - correction, they were fighting to retain the free medical that they, and the retirees, had been enjoying up to that point but was pulled away near the ends of their careers.

There’s already a process to get rid of “dead weight”. It’s called a retirement incentive. So offer it to everyone next year, and you’ll get your wish.

For all the RTO fools, I’m a tech. I never got RTO because I got garage from home.

Fire all office workers so we can get garage from home.

Sure. Let's just do that. They completely stopped management pension years ago. Management doesn't actually GET sick time. We're expected to work regardless. We're now RTO for 8 days a month. We work while we're on vacation. Better healthcare choices. Really? And get rid of dead weight, huh? In the Union environment? Sure.

Before all demands are answered are you prepared to RTO? If not ,then you start at the beginning again, cause you were hired to report to the office.

I am a recently retired management employee, as of Sept 13. I was on strike duty in 2011 and 2016. During the 2016 strike, the CWA was demanding FREE health care coverage for its members. While I believe in good wages and benefits for all employees, that demand was ridiculous. Nobody gets health care for free these days.

So after reading your list of demands, please also provide a list of what YOU will contribute to the company success.

At 30yrs of service you are at full pension and the company does not contribute to your pension anymore. Thats a perk for the company. So if you're still working here after 30yrs they should give you the enhanced 401k.

This is the most anti union thing I’ve ever read. “ Have a process to get rid of dead weight and hire more capable workers.”
