Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T is recalling all former techs.

Just got an email this morning telling me to report to the local hub. Told we're going to do a day of retraining to "catch us back up". They're giving us 100% commission relief for the month and $1500 a week on top of our salary. But we're being forced to work 13 days straight from 7am to 7pm.

I'm in okay shape personally and can still do this if I go slow. But half these people are 60+, many are way out of shape and some definitely can't climb the ladders anymore seeing as they're 300+ lbs. It's still 90+ degrees every day this week, AT&T is going to end up ki-ling people by doing this sh-t. We don't even have a choice either, it's either do this or be terminated. None of us were ever contacted by the the contingency planning team prior to today either, and no one even knew this was something that could possibly happen. I'm in IHX myself, but some of these guys are from the business team and haven't done tech work in 5+ years.

Is anyone else getting these orders too? Anyone unionized having to do this?

“ So it's literally just a job description, Like Manager L1, L2... L5. I was L2, I guess I was, "second class" too? Why is the union making it sound like AT&T called you all a bunch of plebs or something, then?”

L = Level of 1,2,3…5 etc..

Shouldn’t have to explain this but your labor lawyer can enlighten you. If they had said; L1, L2, etc or entry, mid, senior or apprentice, journeyman, expert. Those are more acceptable, “Class” isn’t, words matter.

My great grandmother wasn’t fond of being called a “second class citizen” when she couldn’t vote before 1920 and the 19th amendment was passed that allowed women to vote. Neither were minorities that were deemed “second class” it denotes a position of less than. It’s not about skill or merit in this case and most people are highly offended by the words. Military withstanding, they have a long history of using it.

Can we continue this for a couple of more weeks? Between my picket line shifts I’m trying to finish a honey do list, this will free up my fall to watch football and get my food plots ready for deer season. Thanks HR, I’m usually being forced OT and sweating my butt off this time of year. CP managers can have it for a while, doesn’t hurt my feelings.

Go team, collaborate…. collaborate 👏

Yes, they called “Wire Techs second class” it’s in the CWA bargaining reports and documented by those there.

“It's a negotiation, both sides have to give something. Is the union bargaining "in good faith"? So cringe.“

Sure but one side (union) had to file unfair labor practice charges (ULP) for several violations of the Wagner Act. A few days later, company negotiators said they were going to file too, read a statement to union representatives but couldn’t explain their charges so, didn’t file. Do you think the union negotiators or members wanted a strike? The contract expired on Aug 3 and yet here we are after nearly 3 months of negotiations. Company hasn’t even offered D9 TA. Really! After all these months, they continue to offer absurd proposals, reneg on agreements, etc.. it’s in the labor charges filed.

Management continues to reinforce union ULP charges by threatening employment and retaliation upon return for protected strikers, on various social media sites. The lawyers on the company side must have not told some of you to STFU.

bargain in good faith.*

OMG, this so cringe. I can't take you seriously as you keep repeating this nonsense union like. Just say what you actually mean... "company would rather risk lives than just give us everything we demand". It's a negotiation, both sides have to give something. Is the union bargaining "in good faith"? So cringe.

So the rumor we've been hearing was true! We've been told just because we don't have a CP assignment right now doesn't mean we're excluded. They have started to look at the list to pull more managers for the CP assignment in the field. We haven't heard a peep about the training or CP assignment for anyone in our group yet but the hub (cubicle) that I go to (to "collaborate" via TEAMS with others) are getting more quiet now since they deployed more managers in the past week. Not sure where but they were notified Wednesday night and there's a rumor that this will last until labor day.

Is this recall in any way related to the new recruiting businesses that were being vetted on Thursday and Friday?

The answer is always "Ask your supervisor."

I was just laid off with about 1000 St. Louis, San Ramon people in the Legg org. Able bodied, 40’s. Watching you all work crazy shifts to cover the strike and it makes no sense. Who pulls the drain plug in the middle of a storm over the deepest part of the ocean?

Remember you don’t have to complete more than 1 ticket a day. You are just marking time. All safety rules come first before customer service. If you are not sure, call your supervisor to get the correct procedure in writing. Then start your work.

Oh it’s happening, one of my management buddies called me and said he got the e-mail. He hasn’t worked in the field for years and is worried. He isn’t one of those managers that is a legend in his own mind. He was a great tech when he was craft but knows those days are in the past. The manager’s posturing are in for a rude awakening after a few days of 90 + degree heat and the physical nature plus, having the experience & skills it takes to do the job. Systems and processes have changed.

Advised him to stay safe, hydrate frequently, use “ask yourself” policy and work slow. It’s a marathon not a sprint. We will return soon, if these id--ts stop all the bad faith bargaining.

Can I just say I’m here for this strike drama?! T has been a dumpster fire for a while now and I just enjoy watching it burn. Techs work hard and deserve more, contingency workers won’t accomplish much and shouldn’t put themselves in danger. Really, It’s all of us VS Stankey and his goons.

They can’t replace 17,000 skilled workers, sad that upper management would rather put untrained managers lives in danger than, bargain in good faith. Now you really know how they feel about their human capital. Bargained “essential” employees worked through Covid-19, endangering themselves to keep the company and public going but you see what that meant.

Stay safe out there and look up the “Ask yourself” policy, it may be your life that you save! Drink plenty of liquids because the heat will take you out quickly. Bargained doesn’t have a grievance with middle to lower management in this process, we wish it didn’t come to this impasse but Stankey and HR have other designs. We just want a fair agreement!

Yawn, quit crying on a layoff site instead, send a grievance e-mail to HR and CEO Stankey. It could be corrected in a matter of hours once they decide to address the ULP and get back to good faith bargaining.

You can thank Stankey and the incompetent company labor team negotiators, they have been disrespectful, used stall tactics, reneged on agreements, etc. It may have worked in other districts but not in D3 so, ULP charges filed and work stoppage ensued.

The CEO would rather spend millions and isn’t taking care of the customers or employees. Customers are being told 2 weeks or more before someone will be dispatched out and that was after 4 days. The load is quickly climbing, sales are non existent and poorly trained, out of shape CP managers are being put into dangerous situations, already had some close calls. Mississippi..manager was injured after getting into power line. GA..manager nearly tore a bo-m off a bucket truck by driving under a low bridge. Possible manager heat related fatality, hasn’t been substantiated yet. The safety pyramid says, more serious injuries or worse is imminent. Nobody wants that to happen!

Easy fix, bargain in good faith. Company removed a lead negotiator, getting closer.

Why so they can dig thru 1% of the service orders and then work them wrong? Those have to be provisioned and worked in the central office as well.
