No for January (they need to provide approximately 3 months notice) but have heard agile flex will be bumped to 3 days by Q2

If your whole team (including manager) is in another state or country, who is going to know if you don't go into an office to sit on web conferences? Who are you collaborating with in person especially if the other people in your designated section at the office don't work with you? Completely pointless.

I’m hearing by June 4 days a week for all employees & BAH (for any reason including office closures) will be eliminated. It’s very ironic considering how they push global teams. My entire team is in India. I don’t work with a single American. They want you to drive in and there is literally nobody there that I collaborate with.

Agree fully with you. That is the beauty of having a web site like this: that in the pain we deal with at this place, we are not alone and can communicate about it. It’s funny but I was talking about this very same support system
Conundrum with another old pro who is likeminded on Friday. We believe that this will hit a flashpoint and result in a major outage very soon. This place is like a game of Jenga. You can only pull out so many support and structural strong people before their is a state of collapse. It is coming and I do not believe top level c suite really knows what a house of cards they are dealing with. It also manifests in major upgrades like SWIFT, compliance and regulatory projects and vendor releases that do not interface well outside our infrastructure. Pros can spot these things usually ahead of time or quickly. This offshore team and new layer of managers from elsewhere are helpless. This is the problem- we do not grow a long lasting team of veterans anymore. What is called training here is an obscene joke. Old timers are going away and cannot be counted on to save these people from a meteor that is coming. Also.. where you say that is not really healthy for an organization - even if RV and team wants to turn the firm upside down with 'good' intentions, works both ways. It seems to me that its also not healthy for us to endure a climate of fear, instability and chaos. I am 56 and near the end here. I’ve never endured the stress and nonsense I have now from this. I cannot imagine being 36 or 26 with a young family to support and having to depend on this place to treat me nice. THAT is extremely unhealthy too and its on the same token as RV’s turn the place upside down token. This is not a good place. And all the employee surveys and mckinseys and town halls cannot hide that ugly as--ult being done on employees in non preferred locations. Be strong. Nothing bad lasts forever.

@3olk+1v7vJ9lh - are you seriously asking this question? Do us all a favor and quit because people like you make the rest of us miserable

@5mfx

There is an army of BNY pros who are following the same strategy - I am one of them - give me the package and send me home mindset. That is not really healthy for an organization - even if RV and team wants to turn the firm upside down with 'good' intentions.

But as you mention the middle management is scared to death that run-the-bank and keep-the-ship-floating may not happen if the pros are given the package and sent home. They can cut the workforce by 50% if they offer package to the "oldies" in one stroke. But the bank may sink or just survive.

What I notice is that the new comers , who are all hired at a higher level - Director ,SVP like and have zero hands-on or rusty experience - believe that they can inherit and maintain the status-quo with slave labor in India

As the pros or oldies quiet quit or leave - it just emboldens them - because nothing untoward has happened in the last one year (like the SG incident). So they believe it is the boy-who-cried-wolf story. Add to that the stock has soared giving him the impression that the market is approving their approach.

The rot is setting in and the C suite is all about reaping big bonus and walking away. So are the new hires - no one here is to stay the course as a lifer. The new generation mindset has changed. Whatever they say about 240 years will vanish is 20 years unless Govt considers us as too-big-to-fail.

Sorry - I just wanted to chime in and say - that there are thousands like you who are just holding on for the package and ended up ranting - Looks like I still care (have to stop doing that)

Revenue and profits are up. So with this good financial results and compliments to the staff about everyone's performance, why upset everyone with talk about going back to the office 4-5 days a week?

** I'll be put out of my misery "sometime in 2025." ***
LOL!! Wow you are lucky! You have a humane and peaceful manager. This sad and sick place has turned me into ‘Old Yeller’ with advanced rabies. My manager will not hear of allowing me to be euthanized. She says she ‘sleeps better with a seasoned professional like me keeping projects successful. I think they know I’m 56 and they don’t want to pay me to be waived. They want to see me just leave. I am definitely going to quiet quit and let my in office IQ drop by 60 points and force their hand.

@3olk I'm in this category and I've already been told that I'll be put out of my misery "sometime in 2025." Personally, I'm hoping that means January.

Your timeline depends on when your office closed but anyone in this category is already on a scheduled list. Hope this helps.

What happens to managers who are currently BAH/remote because there’s no nearby office after closures? They obviously can’t come in 4x. Please reply if you’re in the know-how because I could be impacted.

So now I 100% believe the chatter about level L and above being the next target for reduction (I.e. people managing others). They made it so right after bonuses hit they’d have to come in 4 days. For everyone for whom 4 days is the last straw, they’ll quit, retire or take another job - downsizing staff & not having to encourage SUB expenses! They can keep making more people miserable until they get the attrition that they want!

This place gets worse by the day.... I was on a call today (division within Finance) and people started talking about it - they managers on the call confimed, yes - anyone managing people will be in 4 days a week.
Of course the next questions was - what about the rest of us. The managers on the call didn't know.

I agree with those saying Robin and his cronies want us to leave. I wish the dump would go bankrupt. i hate this place2

They want us to quit. They are doing all kinds of things. Forcing RTO, asking people to relocate to St Mary florida and forced BE. Come on people it’s only a matter of time before it’s only 2 locations in USA. They will be closing all sites and requiring you to move to keep your job. This includes BAH folks.

Exactly. They care about the environment when it impacts the bottom line of the income statement. When it doesn’t, who cares!

I guess BNY doesn’t really care about the environment any more. It’s funny I can’t print anything while in the office (and they say it is to save the environment), but then they want me to drive my 8 cylinder SUV 45 minutes each way to the office another day every week. Meh!

I would be ok with the coffee badgers if that practice was permitted across the board. My manager specifically told me we are not allowed to do that. So it is just a little frustrating to see people being allowed to do this every day at my site (a non-growth center).

I’ve worked at many banks, a failing S&L and other financial institutions, contractors building process control systems and many more.

Of all these companies, Mellon and BNYM were the only two places where I had to buy my own coffee.

I love the people who complain about the coffee badgers. Like honestly who gives a flying F if someone chooses to use their gas to drive to the office, grab some coffee, log on and do some work and go home? Everything is done on teams anyways. There’s no in office collabs since 75% of your team is in India messing up your entire process.

Don't all managers have direct reports? Isn't that what makes them a manager???

by

Post ID: @1mrx+1v7vJ9lh

November-January has usually targeted management, grades J-M, for layoffs more than lower salary grades, I and below, who were disproportionately targeted earlier in the year. Honestly, I was an I grade and was laid off in September and is struggling to find a job. I was in compliance with RTO but my job was offshored and I would rather have a job with 5 days in the office than not because it’s not fun to be unemployed. I think this new policy is both intended to enforce the company’s preference for onsite work and to encourage employees to voluntarily leave or be laid off for noncompliance, which would save co $$. Good luck to everyone

No sense complaining. We have 0 leverage over how the company operates. If we were organized in some kind of way and united to all walk off the job....that might get some attention. That would never happen of course. People not willing to risk it. Real choice is just to leave the company and find a better employer or better yet work for yourself.

@1tit+1v7vJ9lh please note that I am not @1sgs. My team was also allowed to work from home several years before covid as an incentive because we transitioned all staff work to India and there was no real point to be in office 5 days anymore. At first we did one day home then upped it to 2 days home years before Covid. We also used it as a way to prove we can recover offsite. Good thing because once covid hit, my team was one of the first teams ready day 1. Everyone had work laptops and monitors at home. We didn’t have to order them or deal with supply chain issues since everyone was rushing to buy them. Just like @1sgs said we weren’t tracked. If we wanted to WFH we did. If not, we went in. We were treated as adults. If an emergency came up we didn’t have to worry about how many days we were in office. If we wanted to go out of state and visit family, and work from home the whole week we could. This place is just adding stupid stress on stupid stress to prove a point and that is that they can control us 24/7.

@1sgs - my team worked 5 days in office pre covid and we were not permitted to work from home. I don’t think they are lying since I know my team and surrounding teams couldn’t work from home

Coming soon, the following changes will supercharge our ever growing excitement about our new culture as we roll out the following employee engagement initiatives:

  • To foster even more collaboration, effective January 1st, employees will not be allowed to use the restrooms except during authorized lunch breaks, which will be reduced to 20 minutes. Wireless connections to the jabber phone will be required to be worn while using the restrooms to remain responsive to clients.
  • To be more for our shareholders, employees will be charged $5 for each restroom use, which will be tracked via badge swipe. We will still supply free coffee to drive up this new revenue source.
  • Our new AI-powered retinal recognition software will be deployed at each workstation to track time spent each day to accurately calculate the new equipment assessment fee which will begin by July 1st. This will make for a more enhanced employee experience than the interim process in which employees will self report their hours utilizing bank equipment and turning in manually calculated invoices to be paid by employees monthly.
  • Vending machines will be placed throughout the workspaces so employees will not have to spend time going to the cafeteria or outside of the building. Managers will be given revenue targets for each group’s vending machines with results published in our monthly employee engagement newsletter. Managers who fail to meet revenue targets will be assessed fees commensurate with the shortfall each has incurred in failing to contribute adequately to our PAC. Those who have met their suggested PAC contribution but have failed to meet revenue goals will be allowed to make additional contributions to our PAC out of their salary increase, which for 2025 is anticipated to rise to be approximately 0.63%.

The excitement is truly growing by leaps and bounds for our new energized culture, so rise up on your platform and join in the chorus of praise for our ever improving employee culture!!
