JUMPING THROUGH HOOPS FOR UNEMPLOYMENT -

Are any of you required to go to go to 3 meetings at the unemployment office or employability office as a requirement of receiving unemployment? I have been required to attend a class. Next, I am scheduled to work on my resume with an employment counselor followed by another meeting to review the progress made per the first two meetings. This is in addition to keeping track of at least 2 job inquiries a week. They want me to meet with a headhunter.

Well, this is my opinion. Unemployment insurance has been paid for me for over 35 years. It wasn't my choice to leave the company. COP told me to go get my employment. Why is the unemployment office making it so difficult? I haven't ever heard of the 3 required meetings before. When there, I found that most of the people there from COP had many years of employment with strong performance ratings. I was also told there were MANY employees just like me with 35+ years of service, strong performance ratings, and pay exceeding $100,000 per year who were laid off by COP in Bartlesville.

Must have an HR troll on here. LOL. The state or federal government had NOTHING to do with laying off employees. Of course they want to pay less out of their pockets even though COP lined them.

The noted Worker Profiling and Reemployment Services is an initiative of the Federal Department of Labor and not the company. The unemployment benefit is determined by the state and not the company. Unhappy with the unemployment insurance process, talk to your state and congressional representative and not the company.

Move on.

You can be sure most of us will comply in order to either receive a new job or receive the unemployment wages. I think the point is that the company may have paid as much as 30+ years of unemployment premiums for an individual. Is it too much to ask for laid off employees in this situation to expect a reasonable amount of unemployment wages. The premiums were paid as a result of their employment, and the lay off was not of their choosing.

I would also like to add that the employees of a significant age who I have met were strong performers, i.e. they had ratings of 3+. I have not seen any younger employees at the mandatory classes, and those whom I am aware of had performance ratings less than or equal to 2.

Premiums to the state associated with unemployment benefits are paid by the employer and not the employee. ConocoPhillips is not pleased with the payments of unemployment benefits due to the increases in premiums. The payment of unemployment benefits is managed by the state (Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas) and not the company (ConocoPhillips). The requirements associated with receiving unemployment benefits are determined by via state and federal mandates. Individuals associated with the visits to WorkForce Oklahoma are considered high risk for long term unemployment based on a number of factors such as age or industry. The staff at WorkForce Oklahoma are working under the guidelines of federal mandates (Google the working of the notice received). At the point the first employment benefit is receive one can be assured the prior employer no longer continues to be relevant in the process.

Or in other words, complete the form weekly with two job applications, visit the WorkForce Oklahoma staff, complete online training, and work on the resume to continue to receive unemployment benefits; otherwise, do not continue to receive unemployment benefits.
