Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Project Goldtouch

Project Goldtouch will study and quantify the amount of time wasted by RSI Nanny software locking workers keyboards several times a day. Now that's a project that really should be given the go ahead.

Let's all take a f*cking micropause to think about how useful and pointless this software really is, and how much time, critical thinking, and flow of work it interupts for those struggling to produce and contribute. There is already enough distraction and interuption in our worklives to prevent RSIs from occuring. This is nothing but a "protect the company from lawsuits app".

Quantify this:

Over 15 minutes of my day are taken away each time a stupid RSI stupid break occures. Take the original 1-5 minutes that it takes to run and then add to that another 5 minutes to answer any IM's that occured while locked or get out of the conversation while walking back to my desk that was started by the weird urinal conversation starter, and if I'm lucky maybe another 5 to remember the last damn thing I was going to type and erase the sorry crap I did type while panic typing before the virtual gymnastics class kicks off. So I between the breaks and micropauses we're looking at a minimum of an hour a day of fractional, unproductive time that this fantastic application forces me to endure. To keep it easy-peasy if 2000 other CVX'ers encounter the same challenges getting back into productivity we are looking at 2000 lost manhours PER day at a corporate level that could be more effectively used to manage and execute our companies objectives. You can play with the time and numbers of people that experience this, and argue this or that, but it still adds up to wasted time that far exceeds in one week any amount of days away from work that we have achieved through keyboard or mouse related injuries. Let's leave it up to the smart employees we claim we have to make their own judgements and observations regarding when it's time to take a break and do our bottom line a major favor.

I start every day by doing the following: (1) Control-Alt-Delete (or right mouse click on the Task Bar); (2) Click Start Task Manager; (3) Click on the Processes tab; (4) Select RSIGuard.exe; (5) Click the button End Process. Voilà!

I was ROM'ed in 2010, and have since gone to work in an organization where I can type all flipping day long with no breaks, if I choose to do so. What has happened to me physically? NOTHING!! Workpace is an aggravating waste of time! Let me also say this: THERE IS LIFE AFTER CHEVRON!

I could hardly agree more! My twenty-something super-fast-typist daughter hired on and soon considered 'Workpace' to be, in HER words, a 'deal-breaker'!

She left Chevron within two years for a MUCH better job...a job in which productivity matters.

Workpace is akin to having someone stick out their foot to trip you as you walk down a hallway.

Incidentally, to Anonymous 126200: there is virtually NO evidence...NO data to support the view that Workpace helps people to avoid Repetitive Stress Injuries, whether or not management THINKS it does.

I'll flesh this out for you, if you like.

Thanks.

Goldfinger! Chevron management cares more about your safety and the potential damage from RSI, than the minute cost of the fraction of stops per hour by this useful software. Obey.

Project Goldtouch... Very original and quite funny if it wasn't so true. Thanks for posting. It made my day!

Of course I did, I mean did you notice the level of grammatical errors, misspellings and obvious lack of proofreading that project description had? I was racing to get this typed before my next interuption. And yes, I'm on a work computer but at home working on Project Goldtouch on my own time. I laugh, but how much error-ridden work, incomplete thoughts, and ineffectively analysis can be impacted to a degree by this horrible productivity killer?

Ha! Your description is spot on! Those stupid micro pauses and virtual exercise breaks are a test of your patience and sanity. I have often wondered how many work hours are lost every day from this crap. It would not surprise me if each tower wastes 20k per week (40K total) on meetings alone, not counting these annoying forced breaks. I wonder what level of Dante's hell these micro pauses and breaks would be on?

The micropauses piss me off more than the breaks. I'd be willing to bet that their interruptions cause more stress (hatred) and your heart to beat faster, than simply overworking that 9 hrs a day. I get spikes of anger, every time one of those stupid microbreaks or workpace breaks pops up on my screen. Worst ap, ever.

I hope you honored your micropauses when writing that book of a post.
