Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

crocodile tears-part1

Lot of your colleagues say "ohh..i was supposed to be in that list" , "glad atleast you were out of this place" , "you will find good job soon" , "you got a great package".

and when you arenot around they were talikng with others" glad the bottom 5%, non-performers, lazy, non-cointributing people are gone, now we can work peacefully".

so dont listen to your colleagues. they think they made the cut because they are high performers or they have good xxxxxxx with their manager.

I am from APSS team and building AQ. Christ knows the truth...how hard we worked day and night..sacrificing families and desires...were always on time and late nights..weekends...late night meetings..early morning meetings with QIPL..china..UK teams...so family is the only one who can understand and review your performance...multiple qualstars..appreciation emails...nothnig mattered now in front of manager personal revenge...

Layoffs say: You are rejected. You are not needed. You are no longer welcome here. You are not good enough. You are not a part of us anymore. You are not valued. And you are not worthy of being kept on.

That’s a pretty harsh message even for the hard core among us. So let yourself absorb that, digest it, deal with it, and accept that it is hard, really hard, to come to terms with a layoff. You didn’t ask for it. You didn’t expect it, and you most certainly don’t deserve it.

But layoffs have nothing to do with you, your talents, your brilliance, your ability and least of all, your future!

Agreed. I give them what I am willing to, a good days work, and if that is not enough to earn my check because they go sweatshop on us we are no longer are in an agreeable employment situation. The severance will be welcome over quitting with nothing in hand.

162787: that conflicts with The Pledge. We should be working 35 mins per day

I hate to say this, but I’m gonna go with the tough love approach - lots of guys deserve this. Large swaths of QC are modern day sweatshops. You can debate how bad it is (depends on group/div, but QCT/QuIC are among worst), whether its transient (has been getter worse year after year for 10+ years) or whether the company is evil (I don’t believe it is, its just the nature of things), but it is what it is and to hell with you guys for not seeing it for what it is and putting up with this BS, killing yourselves, for what? to be laid off in the end?. Really, these last few years have been among the best time to go out and find a new job, yet you guys just stuck it out at QC. So, you must like this treatment. Otherwise, you would do the sane thing and set a limit, put in an honest day’s work, but say “no" to more. If they said, "hey, this guy isn’t pulling his weight", lets lay him off, you would have gotten a nice severance and moved on to a better job, a win/win/win situation. Instead, you killed yourself for this treatment and in some cases got laid off, a lose/lose/win situation. Why? Honestly, I would like anyone past or present at QC to post an answer to that question. Why do you kill yourselves for this place? Why do your throw out your life, your time with your family, for this? Take it from someone who has a few more years on this earth than you do, the problem is with you, not QC. But really, lets use this forum for a real purpose rather than hating on H1B/QC/whatever and have a serious discussion. Why not? (hah).

status handler managers are indirectly threatening remaining qcomers that another layoff is on the way and you need work your ass like 80 hrs/week to survive.

this is another way of getting their jobs done at the expense of engineers health and sanity.

i hardly see any status handlers leaving and now i just wonder how can they get their status when engineers are made to leave in their group.

"I was an under performer and deserved to be laid off."

Note to all remaining QCers: Make 40 hours/week your goal. If you give an honest 40-45 hours/week and maybe burst to 60 hours/week for a week or two, once or twice a year, that's about the right place to be. You're giving too much of your lives away for free. But, be sure you give your full attention to work when you're on the clock -- don't waste a lot of time on personal matters while you're in the office. Separate your work life from your real life and enjoy your evenings and weekends without guilt.

You said it perfectly...we had lot of fun working night and weekends but it turn out to be free overtime for QCT ( and more bonuses for status handlers).
