Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Good luck y'all

I have been left standing. My faith has kept me strong at this time and I believe that this will make me a stronger and better person on the long run.

Perhaps all will reflect and take the true and correct course going forward.

I joined Chevron a few years back having studied hard and got an MBA along the way. I've continued to work hard, never been ranked below a 2+ and helped folks where I could.

This included helping research and write papers for a senior manager who also wanted an MBA. This I did for impure reasons - believing that it would help my career. This person promised much, said they would look after me at the PDC's ("I fought hard for you but could not get that role for you this time. I will next PDC"). Until their studies were complete. Then radio silence and no more communications.

I realise now I was weak and allowed greed to corrupt me.

There are many, many good folks in Chevron who I wish good fortune. However there are others who will abuse and are impure. For those folks - reflect and take the opportunity to change now. The good lord will be your ultimate judge.

Good post. I made my supervisor look really good, and saved them from their own incompetence many times. While they were costing the company millions in bad decision making, I was saving the company millions. But, they were placed, and I was not. Sound familiar?

I'm amazed that Watson is still in charge. I'd rank him a 3 too. He along with his CFO need to be fired.

I would give Watson a 3 for his job the past two years.

Sad but true. There is likely more than one example of some 'leaders' abusing their positions to take advantage and personally gain. It happens here, it happens elsewhere.

They may or may not be the smart ones.

Some function heads know that the traits of some individuals given the responsibility and trust for 'helping' shape the careers of global populations but do nothing about it. Integrity? Transparency? Out of the way?

I'm still around, but this last period has made me very aware of those folks to simply avoid in the future if I can.

Good luck all.

"This included helping research and write papers for a senior manager who also wanted an Mba" This told the tale, hopefully you have learned from the experience enough to not repeat the same mistake again. I learned the hard way too. Fortunately one time was all it took.

I agree with these comments and have had the same experience. "I fought hard for you but." But, "oh well." What goes around comes around and my integrity is intact, ulike that of some others. A very few. Overall my 17 years at Chevron were a very positive experience that I am grateful to have had. No one guarantees us anything. All we can on is our own resourcefulness.

Skanky: That might sound extreme to some, but it is the honest truth. It all comes down to whether one realizes it or not, or how long it takes to realize it.

I had an internship one summer. My mentor, a New Yorker, drove into my head that we are all a bunch of prostitutes. We get paid every two weeks for our services then get kicked to the curb when they get what they want. Some people take this to the extreme and jump from John to John, I mean company to company, going to the highest bidder for their services. Get the money they want, then start looking for the next one. This may not be a bad tactic, make as much as you can as fast as you can. In the meantime, just give them what they want and collect your coins every two weeks.

Same story here. Always had good evaluations. Yes, I also heard "You were a very competitive/strong candidate, and I fought hard for you but ..." "next PDC will be different and there will be better positions available" - all sorts of nonsense that was just to string me on. And I am now also on the street, graduate degree, 20+ years experience and all that hard work.

We have VERY similar stories. "I fought hard for you" were said many times.

In retrospective, it was to keep me motivated rather than lose hope.

I see now that I allowed their ego stroking to blind me from their abuse. Therefore, I was greedy too.

Years later, here I am.... Out on the street after all the hard work I gave.

There is one person, only one, that I think deserves the best for him. He was a true friend a colleague.

The rest can burn in hell.
